International Scout Camp at the Hessentag

Saturday, June 11th, 2011

The local catholic (DPSG) and interconfessional (BdP) Scout districts have joined forces for the Hessentag in Oberursel to hold an international Scout Camp.

83 members of the two organisations and their guests from Epinay in France and Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina are camped on a field that is located between the Marxstraße and the Altkönigsportplatz which is accessible from a path that goes between the Red Cross and Fire Brigade buildings, and from the Mühlenwanderweg.

Guests are welcome, and today the Scouts were offering workshops for the visiting children such as singing, cloth-dying (batik), tracking, pioneering and making twists.

Tomorrow they are holding a wide game which starts at 10am and again guests are welcome to take part.

A weekend in Sonsbeck

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Last weekend I was invited to take part in a camp for former leaders and helpers of the Scout Group in the town of Sonsbeck, in the Niederrhein part of Germany.

Although I was never an actual member of that particular group, I have been in contact with them for the past 23 years and have visited them regularly throughout that time.

Find out why, and what happened at the camp, in this week’s podcast:
