Eppstein Castle at the Hessentag

Saturday, June 18th, 2011

One attraction during the Hessentag in Oberursel has been the model of the Eppsteiner Burg in the Adenauer Allee.

The model was made out of 80 tonnes of sand and took the sculptor and his assistants 400 hours to make.

Funding for the project came from the association Eppstein Touristik Service e.V., who wanted to promote the town artistically.

The White Tower in Bad Homburg

The White Tower in Bad Homburg

Our last visit to a tower in this summer took us to Bad Homburg where we visited the White Tower (Weißer Turm). The tower is located in the middle of the castle, and it took us a while to find the right entrance and then where to get the key from.

Once we had the key, we had the tower almost to ourselves. The tower contains a museum so that rather than just climb to the top, you can read about its history at different levels on the way up.

Currently the tower costs 1EUR for adults and 50 cents for children to enter. The car park “Schloß” near the entrance and most of the buses that go through the town stop nearby.

A visit to the Königsteiner Burg

Monday, May 5th, 2008

This week the Monday Podcast visited the castle ruins in Königstein.

The castle is located on a hill which is accessible by foot and well sign-posted from the town centre. It cost 2EUR for adults and 1EUR for children to enter and contained a maze of different levels, doors, steps and tunnels.

In the centre is the tower which was very windy, even inside. The wooden staircase is stable but small children should be taken by the hand and good footwear is advisable.
