Weißkirchener Straße partially closed next week

Roadworks sign - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / RedKoalaThe Weißkirchener Straße will be closed on one side from Monday 4th March, probably until Saturday 9th March, 2013, between the house numbers 35 and 45 to allow for work to take place on the underground utility network.

Traffic lights will be in place to control the traffic and a diversion via the Oberurseler Straße will be signposted for vehicles coming from Steinbach.

3,000 step walk for senior citizens

Group of Senior Citizens walking - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / micropixThe Seniorentreff in Oberursel will be offering a 3,000 step walk on Wednesday, 6th March, 2013. The walk will go through the old part of the town (Altstadt) and be led by Marion Unger.

To take part, be at the Christuskirche in the Oberhöchstädter Straße at 3pm.

Get on your bike and… go shopping!

With fresh snow on the ground and in some places still falling perhaps going shopping in Oberursel by bicycle was not the most pressing topic for many people last Sunday when the ADFC held their “Tag des Fahrrads” in the Stadthalle.

Over 400 people attended the event – significantly down on the 1,000 that had visited the previous year.

And yet shopping was one of the main topics this year and a debate on the very subject of going shopping by bicycle in Oberursel was held with the chairman of the forum for the self-employed (Fokus-O), Michael Reuter, the Mayor Hans-Georg Brum, Stefan Opitz from the project “Einkaufen-mit-dem-Rad.de” in Darmstadt and local cyclist Helga Hett. A new brochure for new residents

Anyone arriving in Oberursel registering at the town hall will from today receive a copy of the new edition of the “Bürgerbroschüre”.

The brochure contains information about the town itself such as its history, facts and figures, and basic information on the town’s administration.  But it also contains details of local shops and businesses, tourist attractions, clubs, school, churches and doctors.  Even a list of playgrounds.  In fact, probably most of the information that anyone moving to the town is likely to need in their first weeks or months here.

There is even a street map with a list of emergency phone numbers inside the back cover. [Read more…]

Bazaar in the Liebfrauen Kindergarten

The catholic Liebfrauen Kindergarten is holding a bazaar on Sunday, 3rd March, 2013 at 10am.

On offer will be children’s toys, bicycles, prams and clothing.

The Kindergarten is located at Berliner Straße 63-65, near the U-Bahn stop “Stadtmitte”.

 

A reading to take part in

The library in Oberursel will be offering a “Mitmachlesung” – a reading with audience participation – on Thursday, 28th February, 2013 at 3.30pm.

Professional storyteller Uta Werner-Ullrich will be reading a story based on “Geschichten aus der Murkelei” by Hans Fallada, and the children will have a chance to make their own wizards’ and witches’ hats to take home with them.

Tickets cost €3 and are available in the library, by calling 06171 62870 or sending an e-mail to buecherei@oberursel.de.

L3003 between Oberstedten and Bad Homburg partially closed

The L3003 (“Südring”) between Oberstedten and Bad Homburg will be partially closed at places between Monday 25th February and Thursday 28th February, 2013, to allow work to be carried out on the trees.

The closures will be 9.30am until 5.30pm on Monday and 8.30am until 5pm on the other days.

During this time only one side of the road will be available to motorists.

Eppsteiner Straße closed on one side

The Eppsteiner Straße will be reduced to half its normal width between Monday, 25th February and Friday, 1st March, 2013.  The section affected is in front of house number 13.  This is to allow building work to take place.

Book flea market at the library

The library is located at one end of the market square in Oberursel, in the Eppsteinerstraße.

The nearest car parks are “Bleiche” and in the Holzweg. The nearest train station is Altstadt (U3).

Take a tour of Oberursel’s old town

The Bleiche in Oberursels old townA tour of the old town (Altstadt) part of Oberursel is being offered on Saturday, 2nd March, 2013 at 2pm.

The tour starts in front of the Vortaunusmuseum at the Marktplatz at 2pm and costs €3 per person.
