Energy saving advice

Energy Saving Calculator - ©iStockphoto.com/alexslThe Verbraucherzentrale (consumers’ association) will be offering individual energy saving consultations in the Rathaus in Oberursel on Thursday, 4th December, 2014.

Appointments cost €5 for 30 minutes, and €2.50 for each 15 minutes after that. They need to be arranged in advance by calling 06171 502-310.

On Friday, 5th December, 2014 there will be Country-Pop with “Charly” at 8pm.

Entry costs €5, with free entry for school children and students.

Tuesday night cinema at Bluebox Portstraße

As the organisation is not a commercial cinema, they are not allowed to advertise which film will be shown in advance. For Tuesday, 2nd December, 2014, we are told that it will be a melodrama. If you do want to know which film will be shown then call 06171 636930 and they will tell you.

The showing starts at 9pm.

Oberursel Christmas Market (Weihnachtsmarkt)

Sweets beings sold at Oberursel Christmas Market 2011The 2014 Christmas Market (Weihnachtsmarkt) in Oberursel starts on Thursday, 27th November and continues until Sunday, 30th November.

The market is open Thursday 4pm-9pm, Friday 2pm-10pm, Saturday 12pm-10pm and Sunday 12pm-9pm, and takes place in front of the town hall (Rathausplatz), along the “Vorstadt” and “Strackgasse”, and on the market square (“Marktplatz”) with over 100 stands in total.

The Marktplatz is the location for the “middle-ages” market, whereas a miniature steam train will be offering rides on the Rathausplatz. [Read more…]

To take part, be at the bus stop “Altes Rathaus” in Stierstadt at 3pm.

Bingo at the Town Hall

Anyone who is interested is invited to come along and try their luck!

Doors open at 8pm for a 8.30pm start and entry costs €2.

To highlight the situation of refugees in Germany, they will be showing the film “Wadim” on Tuesday, 25th November, 2014 at 9pm.

The documentary shows the tragic life of a boy who grew up in Germany and looks at the pressures that people without the right to permanently stay in the country are under.

At the end of 2013 over 95,000 people were living in Germany with the status of being “tolerated”.  This means that their repatriation has been deferred but they live in fear that one day it will be their turn to be returned to their country of origin.

The lies and lottery of four sisters

Winning the lottery often means not having anything to worry about in life, but for Henriette (Uta Patzina) in the new play “Schwestern” (Sisters) from the Neue Bühne Oberursel the sudden windfall is a problem.  See had promised her sister Mathilde (Anna Altheim) not to play the lottery any more, and all of a sudden she is left with having to explain where all of the money came from, without Sister Notburga (Gerlinda Haas-Schmidt) from the local convent finding out an wanting a donation.  And she doesn’t want the sisters’ domestic employee Frau Bastelhuber (Margit Altheim) finding out about it either.

Luckily Henriette can count of the support of her other sisters Irene (Barbara Semeras) and Charlotte (Gabriele Schweickhardt), the latter being a solicitor who comes up with a plan to explain the money as being an inheritance from long-forgotten relatives – a useful solution considering that Henriette’s daughter Christine (Kerstin Grunwald) already has plans for part of the money and Henritte’s and Mathilde’s house needs urgent repairs done to it.

The only flaw in the plan is not knowing if Mathilde’s uncles Willibald and Paul (Beppo Bachfischer and Rainer Böhrig) are really dead. [Read more…]
