3,000 step walk for senior citizens

To take part, be at the Christuskirche in the Oberhöchstädter Straße at 3pm.

Large book flea market at the library

Pile of books - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / NatikaThere will be a large book flea market in Oberursel’s library between Wednesday, 14th and Saturday, 17th November, 2018 with proceeds going to the library’s supporters’ association.

This market takes place on the 1st floor and has a larger selection of books than the monthly one, so there are usually foreign-language books there as well.

The opening times are:

Wednesday 10-1 & 3-6
Thursday 10-1 & 3-7
Friday 10-1 & 3-6
Saturday 10-1

The library is located at one end of the market square in Oberursel, in the Eppsteinerstraße.

The nearest car parks are “Bleiche” and in the Holzweg. The nearest train station is Altstadt (U3).

Book reading for children aged 4 and over

The story “Prinzessin Pfiffigunde” by Babette Cole is being read in the library on Thursday, 15th November, 2018 at 4pm by volunteer Edith Nikel-Ruppmann.

Tickets cost €2 and should be reserved in advance in the library or by calling 06171 62870.

Flea Market in the Adenauerallee

Flea Market - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / photoflorenzoThe monthly flea market in the Adenauerallee in Oberursel will take place on Saturday, 17th November, 2018 between 7am and 1pm.

The flea market starts at the end of the pedestrian zone and continues the length of the Adenauerallee and over the railway lines towards Bommersheim. One part also takes place in the Nassauer Straße next to the U-Bahn tracks.

To get there by train take either the line U3 or S5 to Oberursel’s main station.

 

Oberursel Twinning Association in Verdun

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, representatives of the twin towns of Epinay-sur-Seine: Oberursel and South Tynside, recently visited the French town of Verdun together.  Among those from Oberursel taking part were Mayor Hans-Georg Brum and Council Chairman Gerd Krämer.

Verdun was selected for its particular place in Franco-German history.  In the First World War, the Battle of Verdun saw over 300,000 killed and around 400,000 wounded in one of the costly battles of the war on the western front.  [Read more…]

Friday Night Jazz at the Portstrasse

Entry is free.

The “musikhalle” is located opposite the U-Bahn station “Altstadt” on the U3 line.

How Oberursel’s Synagogue survived the Reichspogromnacht

Today Germany is commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Reichspogromnacht, also known as Kristallnacht or in English as the “Night of Broken Glass” when, on 9th November, 1938, Jewish homes, shops, businesses and synagogues where attacked.

Oberursel was no exception on that night, and it is reported that headstones were damaged in the Jewish cemetery in Altkönigstraße, families attacked and at least two men being arrested and deported to the Buchenwald concentration camp.

But whilst in other towns Synagogues were set on fire and destroyed, Oberursel’s survived. [Read more…]

Anyone who is interested is invited to come along and try their luck!

A 3,000 step walk for senior citizens is taking place in Weißkirchen on Wednesday, 14th November, 2018.

To take part, be at the “Altes Rathaus” (Urselbachstraße 59) at 9.30am.

Tuesday night cinema at Bluebox Portstraße

As the organisation is not a commercial cinema, they are not allowed to advertise which film will be shown in advance. For Tuesday, 13th November, 2018, we are told that it will be  a dramaIf you do want to know which film will be shown then call 06171 636930 and they will tell you.

The showing starts at 8.30 pm
