Jazz meets Mills – Jazz meets Mühle – under a baking hot sun

The third edition of the “Jazz meets Mills” event on Whitmonday, 9th June, 2014, certainly had better weather than the previous year.  It was hot.  Very hot.

The day started at the Schuckardsmühle, now known as the “Haus der Naturfreunde”, on the Mühlenwanderweg with Mayor Hans-Georg Brum and Fountain Queen Carolyn II. opening the proceedings, before The Bandstand feat. Valentin Garvie kicked off the music. [Read more…]

Jazz meets Mühle - 2012 flyer“Jazz meets Mühle” is being held for the third time this year, and slightly earlier in the year as well.  The 2014 event takes place on Whitmonday, 9th June and involves as always the mills along the Mühlenwanderweg.

At five places along the route there will be jazz bands playing, with refreshments available and a chance to see the historical buildings from a new perspective.

Although the event itself will be taking place between 11am and 5.30pm, the bands are playing at different times along the route, allowing visitors to experience each one in turn. [Read more…]

Jazz meets mills – Jazz meets Mühle

Jazz meets Mühle - 2012 flyer“Jazz meets Mühle” is an event being held in Oberursel on Sunday, 19th August, 2012 along the Mühlenwanderweg.

At four places along the route there will be jazz bands playing, with refreshments available and a chance to see the historical buildings from a new perspective.

Although the event itself will be taking place between 10am and 5pm, the bands are playing at different times along the route, allowing visitors to experience each one in turn.

The four locations are:

Schuckardtsmühle

Now known as “Haus der Naturfreunde”, or Altkönigstraße nr. 53, a trio known as “Coeur du Bois” will be playing gipsy-style jazz at 11am with the “Verein der Naturfreunde” providing the refreshments.  A water-wheel still works here, but is not the original wheel and is only for demonstration purposes.

Kürtellsmühle

This building is now better known as the home of the “Adam Koch” plumbing company at Altkönigstraße nr. 43, however Adam Koch himself used to be mill builder.  The modern jazz music will be played by the “Georg Boeßner Trio” at 12pm and the cycling club (Radfahrverein) from Bommersheim will be providing the freshments.

Herrenmühle

The building, An der Herrenmühle 7-9, is one that many people have walked passed without knowing much about its history, as it is next to the Bleiche car park.  A large water wheel is still visible from the Hollerberg path.  The classical jazz, blues and swing music will be played by the Trevor Richards Trio at 1pm, with refreshments from Pizzeria Pepperoni.

Vortaunusmuseum

The museum is located at the top end of the market square and contains examples of millstones and other interesting pieces of technology from the mills’ hayday.  The Powerhouse-Swingtett will be playing swing, as the name suggests, from 2pm onwards, with refreshments being arranged by the museum.

If the combination of history, music, culture and gastronomy prove to be a success, then further such events may be planned in future.
