Autos in der Allee

The 21st “Autos in the Allee” takes place this weekend in Oberursel.  The exhibition, which features 215 new cars from 15 local dealers was officially opened this morning (Saturday, 21st April, 2018) in the Adenauer Allee by Mayor Hans-Georg Brum, the newly crowned Fountain Queen Anna-Lena I., and the chairman of the local business association (Fokus O) Michael Reuter.

Sunday is “verkaufsoffen”, which shops in the town centre allowed to open.  The 2nd Oberursel beer festival is also taking place this weekend on the Rathausplatz.

Get on your bike and… go shopping!

With fresh snow on the ground and in some places still falling perhaps going shopping in Oberursel by bicycle was not the most pressing topic for many people last Sunday when the ADFC held their “Tag des Fahrrads” in the Stadthalle.

Over 400 people attended the event – significantly down on the 1,000 that had visited the previous year.

And yet shopping was one of the main topics this year and a debate on the very subject of going shopping by bicycle in Oberursel was held with the chairman of the forum for the self-employed (Fokus-O), Michael Reuter, the Mayor Hans-Georg Brum, Stefan Opitz from the project “Einkaufen-mit-dem-Rad.de” in Darmstadt and local cyclist Helga Hett. Oberursel is a Fairtrade Town

Oberursel is now officially a “Fairtrade Town”.  The certificate confirming this was presented on Saturday during the autumn market (Herbsttreiben) by TransFair’s ambassador Manfred Holz to Mayor Hans-Georg Brum and the Fokus-O Chairman Michael Reuter.

To get this far the town has spent the last six months bringing together businesses, politicians and members of the community to promote “fair trade” goods, and is the first town in Hochtaunuskreis to by archieve this.  Local shops office the products for sale and café and restaurants serve them as well.

It is also a requirement that local schools, clubs and churches use “fair trade” products and educate people about them. [Read more…]
