Rhythm of Life Concert

Rhythm of Life FlyerA concert called the “Rhythm of Life” is being held in the Stadthalle in Oberursel on Saturday, 16th November, 2013 at 7.30pm.

Taking part will be the choir “CHORiosum”, the children’s choir, the orchestra and band from Oberursel’s music school, all conducted by Holger Pusinelli.

The choir “Vil-belCanto” will also be taking part, conducted by Benedikt Bach.

Tickets cost €10 for adults and €8 for children.

5th Taunus Metal Concert

The 5th Taunus Metal Concert will take place on Friday 5th July and Saturday 6th July 2013 at the Burgwiesenhalle in Bommersheim.

Among the bands performing are Deathfist, Fatal Embrace, Traitor, Warcry, Epicedium, Rezet, Warhammer, Attic, Insulter and Reflexor, as well as Tyranex from Sweden, Emerald from the Netherlands and Elvenstorm from France.  The star act is Hobbs’ Angel of Death from Australia.

The concert starts at 5pm on Friday and 10am on Saturday (doors open at 4pm on Friday and 9.30am on Saturday).  A two-day ticket costs €15 in advance or €20 at the door.

Concert in aid of the Ehrenmal

The Ehrenmal at the end of July 2012A concert to help raise funds to complete the restoration of the “Ehrenmal” war memorial is being held on Friday, 10th May, 2013 at 8pm in the Stadthalle.

Entitled “4 Hände auf 88 Tasten” (4 hands on 88 keys), pianists Barbara Schmidt and Marcus Schwarz will be performing works from Anton Bruckner, Franz Schubert, Claude Debussy, Francis Poulenc and Samuel Barber.

Entry to the concert is free, but those attending are asked to make a donation to the restoration project.

Donations can also be made by bank transfer to account number 70 300 70 (“Ursella-Stiftung, Ehrenmal”) at the Taunus Sparkasse, sort code 512 500 00.

 

Oberursel Christmas Market (Weihnachtsmarkt)

Sweets beings sold at Oberursel Christmas Market 2011The 2012 Christmas Market (Weihnachtsmarkt) in Oberursel starts on Thursday, 29th November and continues until Sunday, 2nd December.

The market is open Thursday 4pm-9pm, Friday 2pm-10pm, Saturday 12pm-10pm and Sunday 12pm-9pm, and takes place in front of the town hall (Rathausplatz), along the “Vorstadt” and “Strackgasse”, and on the market square (“Marktplatz”) with around 100 stands in total.

The Marktplatz is the location for the “middle-ages” market, whereas a miniature steam train will be offering rides on the Rathausplatz.

Arts and Crafts

Inside the town hall an arts and crafts fair will be taking place with around 40 stands, including those from the twin towns of Epinay-sur-Seine, Rushmoor and Lomonossow.  The fair closes an hour before the Christmas market, except on Thursday.

The “Hospitalkirche” Church in the Strackgasse will be hosting a series of concerts over the weekend, with entry free but a donation requested.

Friday 6pm: Flute ensemble from Oberursel music school

Saturday 6pm: Crotchets – the Klezmerensemble of Oberursel’s music school

Sunday 6pm: Youth orchestra and recorder group from the TV Stierstadt.

Advent market in the museum

The Vortaunusmuseum at the Marktplatz will be holding an advent market on Saturday 10am-6pm and Sunday 12pm-6pm.

Seniorentreff

The “Seniorentreff” will be holding their own Christmas market at Hospitalstraße 9, where they will be selling knitted socks and other hand-made items.  There will also be refreshments available including mulled wine.  The opening times are: Friday 2pm-9pm and Saturday 10am-9pm.

4 Rooms Open Air Winter Party

The Café Portstrasse will be holding an “Open Air Winter Party” next to the U-Bahn stop “Altstadt” on Thursday between 6pm and 8.30pm, with hot drinks, music, twists, sausages, and a fire show and young people from all parts of the town are invited to start or end their Christmas market tour here.

Road closures

The following roads will be closed during the Christmas Market opening times:

  • Obere Vorstadt
  • Obere Strackgasse
  • Untere Marktplatzstraße

The  Untere Hainstraße will be open to two-way traffic.

The Ackergasse will be closed where it meets the Schlenkergasse, allowing traffic to flow via the Schlenkergasse and Weidengasse.

The car park next to the town hall will be closed from Tuesday, 27th November.

The normal market on Wednesday and Saturday will be moved to the Epinayplatz.

Classic under the stars

Musical notes - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / snehitdesignThe Kultur- und Sportförderverein Oberursel (KSfO), who organise the open-air theatre each year, have something special on offer this week – an evening of classical music on the open-air stage in the grounds of the Hohe Mark clinic.

Starting at 8pm the concert will feature members of the “Frankfurter Sinfoniker” conducted by Stefan Ottersbach with selected vocalists.

These include the Mexican tenor Emilio Ruggerio and the American soprano Deborah Lynn Cole.

The music will include pieces by Bizet, Donizetti, Verdi and Puccini.

The clinic is easily reached by taking the U3 train to the end of the line (Hohemark), from where it is a short walk.  Parking spaces at €3 each are also available.
