Why Global Warming may be good for us

I couldn’t believe this piece of news when I read it – Global Warming?  Good for us???   There’s me trying to do my bit to save the planet, and then a government department goes and writes a report saying that it’s not all that bad.

Any why?  Because warmer winters are less of a threat to us, ie. less people die.  It even considers that the increases in the summer temperatures (did I miss something last year?) are not so serious because less people suffer from things such as skin cancer than those that suffer in colder winters.

Am I the only person that thinks that this is the wrong way to tackle the problem?  We should be trying to find ways to stop the Global Warming, not trying to find arguments for keeping it.

Pizza cones

Do you remember in the film “There’s Something About Mary” the scene, where Ted and Mary are eating meat out of a cone, and agree that you don’t get enough meat in cones?
Well, I’ve discovered something else that comes as a cone – pizza!
I think the best way to imagine it, is like a calzone that’s open at one end.   I read about them here.  The idea seems simple enough – the pizza is not flat, but shaped like a cone, with the filling inside.  You can then hold it in one hand, and eat it outside, eg. whilst walking.
In my opinion, this is a really great idea and I look forward to someone in Germany taking on the idea so that I can try it!

London to introduce variable Congestion Charge

After writing about the new “low-emission” zone in London, I was fascinated to read about a scheme for normal cars to make the Congestion Charge variable according to the car’s emissions.

The idea is, that the current charge of 8GBP could rise up to as much as 25GBP for vehicles that have high emission rates, but on the other hand the charge could be reduced down to nothing for low-emission cars.

I’m note sure that everyone will approve, but I’ll be keeping an eye on the new tariffs to see whether bio-ethanol cars belong to the “free” category!
