The Apple Wine Festival at the Hessentag

This evening one of the main events at the Hessentag in Oberursel was the Apple Wine Festival, with Ministerpräsident Volker Bouffier and the Mayor of Oberursel, Hans-Georg Brum, opening the proceedings by hitting a tap into a barrel of apple wine.

The event took place in the Hessischer Rundfunk tent, and was recorded for showing tomorrow evening at 10pm.

Although I was not at the event itself, I was able to attend the rehearsal this afternoon and watch as camera positions were set up with stand-ins, and with cardboard cut-outs placed at the tables to represent the VIP guests.

Rehearsing for real were the station’s own Big Band with singers Roy Hammer and Trude Blume who, in-keeping with the apple theme, sang “Für mich soll’s lieber Äppler regnen” (I’d prefer it to rain cider – a play on a song about it raining red roses), and “Frankfurter Wein” (Frankfurt wine).

Then two of the comedians where were to perform in the evening came to work out their positions on stage, and went through part of their routines.  Bodo Bach and Martin “Maddin” Schneider are both local stars and often refer to places like Offenbach and Ober-Erlenbach during their performances.  Both speak in a Hessian dialect.

Unfortunately the third comedian I would like to have seen, Mathias Münch, did not take part in the rehearsal.  I normally watch him talking about a different kind of Apple Saturdays in c’t-tv – the type to make phone calls with!

Still, watching the rehearsal was an interesting experience and I look forward to seeing the show for real when it is broadcast tomorrow.

I would like to thank Hessischer Rundfunk for allowing me to take photographs during the rehearsal.
