Fit 1/2

Fit 1/2, or to give it its full title: Fit in Deutsch 1/2 are two courses and exams set at the A1 and A2 levels respectively.

They are aimed at younger people than the previous DaF courses, and as such they concentrate on situations and subsequently the vocabulary that younger people would need when in Germany.

One problem with such target groups is the time it takes for new textbooks to appear that take account of modern trends.  Modern topics may therefore be covered using handouts rather than textbooks.

MwSt

MwSt is the abbreviation for Mehrwertsteuer, which is also known as Umsatzsteuer (USt).  This is the equivalent to VAT in the UK.

At present, MwSt is 19% for most items in Germany, with some items such as basic foodstuffs and books being only 7%.  For some goods and services (eg. stamps) there is currently no MwSt.

The term “Mehrwertsteuer” was introduced in 1968, but the principles were first introduced as a form of stamp duty in 1916.

Einkaufen auf Lanzarote

Wenn man in einer Ferienwohnung auf Lanzarote wohnt, muss man natürlich auch einkaufen. Dabei ist mir aufgefallen, dass es viele von Deutschland her gewohnte Produkte bzw. Marken auch hier gibt. Jedoch zum Teil mit anderen oder zusätzlichen Geschmacksrichtungen und teilweise teurer. Bei Milchprodukten zum Beispiel.

Auch die Backwaren sind dem Tourismus angespasst. Wobei hier ein paar Schwierigkeiten aufgekommen sind, denn der spanische Name für Mohnbrötchen war meinem (spanischsprechenden!) Mann nicht geläufig und man musste eben auf das zeigen was man haben wollte. Es ist auch nicht so einfach, denn eine direkte Übersetzung gibt es nicht. ‘Panecillo con adormidera’ würde es wahrscheinlich am ehesten treffen. Neben den kanarischen Eissorten sind auch die deutschen Großhersteller anzutreffen. Bei der Marmelade habe ich eine Überraschung erlebt, was es in Deutschland nicht gibt, dafür auf Lanzarote ist Apfelmarmelade. Ich habe sie probiert und fand sie gut.

Da Puerto del Carmen auf Touristik ausgelegt ist, gibt es, wenn auch für etwas mehr Geld als zu Hause, deutsche Zeitungen und Promiklatschblätter.

Ansonsten bekommt man alles was das Herz begehrt und man braucht auf nichts zu verzichten.
