Each year Oberursel holds a wine festival over the course of a weekend in the summer. The stands sell wine from the Rheingau area of Germany and there are stalls with food, drink and usually other attractions – music, and merry-go-rounds for children, and so on.
This year, however, the festival appeared to me to get smaller. Normally it overflows into the streets surrounding the market place, but not this year. I counted 18 stands in total, about 4 were selling food and the rest wine. There was a stage where live music was performed, but otherwise not much in the way of attractions.
There was a special time for childrens’ games, but otherwise not much in the way of rides.
It was pleasant surprise, though, to see that the prices for the wines (and the food) had stayed more or less the same as last year. The wines are served in 0,1l glasses and cost upwards of around 1,30EUR per glass. Very good wines, eg. ice wine (“eiswein”) cost 5EUR for 0,05l!
I was planning on producing a podcast from the festival, but although I recorded it I discovered a small problem whilst editing… and so while I sort that out I won’t be putting it online.
Unfortunately the rest of my family was away for the weekend so after doing the recording I didn’t stay as long as I might have done. This was a shame, because the last couple of years we have always spent a whole evening there and even brought back bottles of wine to drink at home during the winter months.
Let’s hope it works out better next year!
