Oberurseler Brunnenfest

This weekend is Brunnenfest in Oberursel (“fountain festival”). It covers most of the inner town from the market place to the fairground near the Portstraße. There are merry-go-rounds, fairground-type games and lots of places to eat and drink.

There are also special events, such as the “Childrens Mile” (Kindermeile), which took place on Saturday afternoon. These are games especially for children, all in one road. In the evening there is live music from various different bands.

What struck me was that whilst the price of the rides and the food was normally quite reasonable, the drinks were expensive. A coke cost 3,30EUR plus 2EUR deposit for the glass!

We will be talking more about this tomorrow in The Monday Podcast.

Who wants to be a Millionaire Host?

Have you ever wondered what it would be like, if the host of “Who wants to be a Millionare?” (“Wer wird Millionär?”) was to change places a be on the hot seat himself?

Well, during a celebrity special in Germany that is exactly what happened. Host Günther Jauch changed places with his contestent, Horst Schlämmer.

You can watch it at ClipFish.de in 4 parts: 1 2 3 4 – the switch is in the 2nd part at around time index 06:00.

Another interesting scene is in part 3 around 02:40 when Horst (played by Hape Kerkeling, who speaks Spanish) notes that he could have answered the 32.000€ question himself – without a joker.

For this scene they were awarded the “Deutscher Fernsehpreis”.

Eating Italian in Bad Homburg II

Another place for good Italian food is hidden away in the old part of the town:

Ristorante Pizzeria Desirée
Obergasse 10-12
61348 Bad Homburg

Tel.: 06172 23524

The food is good and both pizza and pasta can be recommended.  I discovered Desirée when I was on an Italian crash course at the adult education centre (VHS), which is just around the corner.

The serviettes contain basic Italian phrases, like “please”, “thank you”, and so on, what adds to the atmosphere if you’re brave enough to try them out!
