Bad Homburger Sommer

The “Bad Homburger Sommer” takes place each summer in Bad Homburg over the space of two weeks. This year it starts on 30th June and finishes with a big firework display on 15th July.

There are open-air film showings, concerts in the park, games and participation-theatres for children and even a flea market.

Most of the events are free to the public as they are sponsored by local businesses, although there are a few ticketed events – but even they have reasonable prices.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • Nachttheater im Schloss – Die drei Musketiere
  • Hexenzauber in Ober-Erlenbach
  • Sommernachtsball (kostenpflichtig)
  • Flohmarkt im Kurpark
  • Kinder-Lieder-Mitmach-Theater “Pitsch, Patsch, Pinguin”
  • Open Air Kino: Charlie und die Schokoladenfabrik
  • Kurpark in Flammen

Eating Italian in Bad Homburg II

Another place for good Italian food is hidden away in the old part of the town:

Ristorante Pizzeria Desirée
Obergasse 10-12
61348 Bad Homburg

Tel.: 06172 23524

The food is good and both pizza and pasta can be recommended.  I discovered Desirée when I was on an Italian crash course at the adult education centre (VHS), which is just around the corner.

The serviettes contain basic Italian phrases, like “please”, “thank you”, and so on, what adds to the atmosphere if you’re brave enough to try them out!

Hotel Katharinenhof (Bad Homburg)

This hotel is outside of Bad Homburg in a part of the town called “Ober-Erlenbach”. It is reachable by bus (Nos. 2, 12 & 22), and is situated in the old-part of Ober-Erlenbach.

Particularly for visitors on business, this can be a welcome place to stay away from the centre. There are still sufficient facilities (restaurants, supermarket, …) within walking distance.
