Die King James Bibel ist die heute am gebräuchlichsten und am weitesten verbreitete Bibel in Großbritannien. Sie ist eine Übersetzung ins englische, aus dem Jahre 1611, die King James in Auftrag gegeben hatte. Es fanden danach einige Abschriften statt von denen die letzte von 1769 heute noch im Gebrauch ist.
Der Grund dafür lag darin, dass die Menschen die vorige Bibel, die Bishop’s Bible, nicht so recht verstehen konnten. Die neue Bibel sollte eine Bibel in der Umgangssprache für das Volk werden, die rege Nutzung haben würde, wie man heute weiß. Ein anderer Grund ist, dass andere Übersetzungen der Bibel auf den Auslegungen der Übersetzer basiert, was King James ändern wollte, denn er wollte, dass die Übersetzung direkt geschieht ohne den Text zu verändern mit Klarheit und melodischer Sprache.
