10 Things to do in Frankfurt in Summer

Now that summer has finally arrived in Frankfurt, here are some ideas of things to do on a sunny day:

1. Visit the zoo.  The U-Bahn lines U6 and U7, tram line 14 and bus nr. 31 all stop there.

2. Take a ride on an open-top bus around the city centre.

3. Visit the Palm Garden and see the tropical and sub-tropical plants or take a ride on the Palmen-Express.

Science on a ship – the MS Wissenschaft on tour

The MS Wissenschaft is a container ship that has been converted into a floating exhibition.  Each year the ship tours the main rivers of Germany, stopping at towns along the route, and this weekend it was Frankfurt’s turn to play host to the 2011 exhibition called “Neue Wege in der Medizin” (new paths in medicine) during the Main leg of the tour.

The exhibition, which is aimed at both children aged 12 and over, and at adults is split into different sections which first explain how the body works before looking at new ideas both in traditional medicine but also in what might be called “personal lifestyle”. [Read more…]

Frankfurt by train

Today the Monday Podcast combines two ideas. When I was younger, I used to enjoy going out for a day and just riding on trains in cities like London or Rotterdam. Now it was time to try this with my daughter in Frankfurt.

Secondly, I often read questions in forums about visiting Frankfurt for only a few hours, eg. between flights, and I wanted to see how much of Frankfurt it was possible to see using the trams and U-Bahn lines.
