The Ernst-Moritz-Arndt Tower

They call it the “Wahrzeichen der Stadt” – the town’s landmark, and photos of it can usually be found on many of the postcards from Bergen auf Rügen.  And yet, the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt Tower is not really near to the centre of the town and, in tower terms, is not really that tall.  So what is all the fuss about?

To understand the tower, it is an advantage to know who exactly Ernst Moritz Arndt was and why it was built in the first place.

He was a poet and a thinker, born in 1769 on Rügen at a time when the island belonged to Sweden.  His works reflect the beauty that he saw in the island, but he known in particular for criticising Napoleon’s occupation of Germany and fleeing into exile as a result. [Read more…]

Why your bank may not help you if you pay by ec-card and PIN

Laptop with card reader - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / MultiartOne of the most popular ways of paying for things  in shops in Germany is by ec-card – a standardised debit card that is issued by most banks and accepted by most shops. The card, which has a both a magnetic strip and a chip on it, generally comes with a PIN and you enter the PIN when paying to confirm the transaction, although some older card readers still require you to sign a slip of paper instead.

The money is debited from your bank account in a similar way to a direct debit (“Lastschrift”), but the similarity stops here. Because whereas a direct debit can be reversed within 6 weeks, I recently found out that such protection is not offered when paying by PIN. [Read more…]

Das Rippenspreizer Cartoon-Buch drei – Medizinische Cartoons

Ersteinmal hat es mich schon beim Vorwort fast zerrissen 🙂

Das Buch ist stabil, also zum öfteren Genuss unbedingt geeignet! Wozu auch die Seiten gehören, mehr als ein Cartoon wäre jedoch zu viel auf einer Seite, Daumen hoch so wie es ist!

Die Cartoons sind supertoll gezeichnet, mit so viel Liebe zum Detail, Wahnsinn wie viel Mühe dahinter steckt! Jedes Mal wenn man sie wieder anschaut, entdeckt man etwas neues. Die versteckten Kaffeetassen und die Beschriftung der PSA sind genial um nur zwei Beispiele zu nennen.

Die Themen der Cartoons sind einfach mitten aus dem Leben und jeder RDler findet einen den er so schon mal erlebt hat.

Meine beiden Lieblingscartoons sind einmal „Photoshop“ und „Wettlauf“! Der Wettlauf geht oft schief und da freut man sich doch wenn man mal „schneller“ war als der Sensenmann.

Welchen ich ein wenig zu derb fand ist „Kinderanimaton“

Würde ich das Buch weiterempfehlen? Was für eine Frage… Natürlich!!! 🙂

Fazit: Die Cartoons haben Suchtpotential, weiter so 😉
