It’s carnival time!

After a break of two years the carnival season has returned to many parts of Germany.

Last Saturday Oberursel’s carnival Princess Fiona I. joined forces with the Kinderprinzenpaar (Julius I. & Annabel I.) to take over control of the town hall until Ash Wednesday.

The highlight of their time in office will be the procession on Sunday (19th February at 2.11pm) in which a record number of 195 floats, bands and other groups on foot will be taking part.

The long awaited Aldi supermarket

At the beginning of the pandemic, Rewe closed one of their supermarkets in Oberursel that was a favourite amongst local residents. Speculation was rife about who would eventually take over the shop, until the newly elected Mayor let the cat out of the bag and named Aldi at the opening ceremony of a nearby restaurant.

Since then, many eyes have been on the progress – or lack of it – inside the store. But now, not only is building work taking place, a poster has gone up naming the planned opening date:
