Lantern Festival (Laternenfest)

The annual lantern festival (Laternenfest) in Bad Homburg takes place between the 2nd and 5th of September, 2011.

The festival stretches from the end of the pedestrian precinct next to the Rathaus all the way up to the other end of the Louisenstraße, and then across the road to the Festplatz.

There is also a procession on Saturday evening, which leaves Kirdorf at around 8.30pm and goes along the Kaiser-Friedrich-Promenade and the edge of the Kurpark.  On Sunday evening it leaves Ober-Eschbach at 8.30pm to return by a slightly different route.

One of the easiest ways to get there is by taking the S-Bahn (S5) to Bad Homburg and walking from the station to the Louisenstraße, although getting to the Festplatz at the other end can take a while!  While the procession takes place most of the bus routes cannot run.
