Book flea market at the library

Pile of books - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / NatikaThere will be a book flea market in Oberursel’s library on Saturday, 5th August 2017, between 10am and 1pm with proceeds going to the library’s supporters’ association.

The library is located at one end of the market square in Oberursel, in the Eppsteinerstraße.

The nearest car parks are “Bleiche” and in the Holzweg. The nearest train station is Altstadt (U3).

Take a tour of Oberursel’s old town

The Bleiche in Oberursels old townA tour of the old town (Altstadt) part of Oberursel is being offered on Saturday, 5th August 2017 at 2pm.

The tour starts in front of the Vortaunusmuseum at the Marktplatz at 2pm and costs €3 per person.

Take a look inside the tower of St.Ursula’s Church

St.Ursula's Church Tower in OberurselThe tower of St.Ursula’s Church in Oberursel will be open to the public on Saturday, 5th August 2017 between 3pm and 5pm.

The tower contains a museum, the belfry and there is also access to the roof where you can get a breathtaking view across the town and its neighbours.

Entry costs €1.50 for adults and €1.00 for children.

 

Jürgen Ponto Fountain

During the 1970s the Red Army Faction, also known as the RAF, assassinated and kidnapped a number of important figures in West Germany.  They also set of a number of bombs at major buildings and U.S. bases.

On 30th July, 1977, they attempted to kidnap Jürgen Ponto, the chairman of the Dresdner Bank board of directors.  The attempt when wrong and instead he was shot in his own home in Oberursel.

The fountain between the Rathaus and the Stadthalle is dedicated to him.  The designer, Claus Bury, wanted to depict how he was torn away from his family, leaving a gap in their lives.  Hence the steps which have been carved out of the main piece of stone and placed some distance away. Energy saving advice

Energy Saving Calculator - ©iStockphoto.com/alexslThe Verbraucherzentrale (consumers’ association) will be offering individual energy saving consultations in the Rathaus in Oberursel on Thursday, 3rd August 2017.

Appointments cost €5 for 30 minutes, and €2.50 for each 15 minutes after that. They need to be arranged in advance by calling 06171 502-310.

 

Children try out working with wood in the Rushmoor Park workshop

The children’s workshop that set up camp this week is well known to many children in Oberursel.  Klaus Bethold and Roswitha Weißschnur from Leipzig have been coming to the town since the Hessentag in 2011, where they could be found at the Maasgrund.  They are regular visitors to the Christmas market and the Waldfest, as well as working together with some of the primary schools in the town.

But this year they are taking part in the Orscheler Sommer events for the first time and are on a site behind the Christuskirche for a whole week.  This has its advantages according to Klaus, 75.  Anyone can come and they can spend as long as they like trying out the tools. [Read more…]

Car damaged in the Weilstraße

A black BMW has been damaged sometime between Friday, 21st July 11pm and Saturday, 22nd July, 2017, 6.50pm.

The car was parked on the left-hand-side of the Weilstraße in front of house number 22.  The rear bumper was damaged, although police do not know how it happened as the driver who caused the accident left without leaving their details.

Police are now asking for witnesses to call them on 06171 62400.

School kiosk broken into

A kiosk at the Hochtaunusschule in the Bleibiskopfstraße was broken into sometime between Monday, 3rd July and Saturday, 8th July, 2017.

The thieves forced open the cash box and took out around €200.

Police would like anyone with information to call them on 06171 62400.

 

Road junction closed

During the coming week (Monday 31st July – Friday 4th August, 2017) work will be taking place on underground utility pipes near the “Drei Hasen” bridge.  The slip road connecting the Nassauer Straße with the Homburger Landstraße travelling towards Bommersheim will be closed during this time.

Traffic will be diverted along the Willy-Brandt-Straße and “An den Drei Hasen” back towards and then under the bridge.

The slip road in the other direction is not affected.
