Children try out working with wood in the Rushmoor Park workshop

The children’s workshop that set up camp this week is well known to many children in Oberursel.  Klaus Bethold and Roswitha Weißschnur from Leipzig have been coming to the town since the Hessentag in 2011, where they could be found at the Maasgrund.  They are regular visitors to the Christmas market and the Waldfest, as well as working together with some of the primary schools in the town.

But this year they are taking part in the Orscheler Sommer events for the first time and are on a site behind the Christuskirche for a whole week.  This has its advantages according to Klaus, 75.  Anyone can come and they can spend as long as they like trying out the tools. [Read more…]

Magic on Tuesday evening

As part of the Orscheler Sommer series of events a group of magicians will be performing in the Rushmoor Park on Tuesday, 25th August, 2015 at 7.30pm.

Their act includes a mixture of comedy, hypnosis, magic and music.

Entry is free.

Concert in Rushmoor Park

As part of the Orscheler Sommer series of events a concert by the band “Fehlgriff Orchester” is being held in Rushmoor Park on Tuesday, 4th August, 2015 at 7.30pm.

The band plays a mixture of swing, funk and rock.

Entry is free.

Three Trees for German Unity

To celebrate 25 years of German Re-unification in 1990 a project has started to plant three trees in as many town as possible.

In Oberursel the trees were planted at the end of October 2014 in the Rushmoor Park.  Placed in an equilateral triangle 10 metres apart from each other, there is a beech tree at the western point of the triangle to symbolise the “old” Federal Republic, a pine tree at the eastern point symbolising the GDR, and an oak tree at the northern tip to symbolise the unified country.

If viewed from the air, the tops of the trees form a roof that is a symbol of protection for the country’s citizens. [Read more…]

5th Oberursel Short Film Festival

Short films produced throughout Germany will be shown, with popcorn being sold to raise funds to restore a classic silent film.
