Graffiti sprayer caught

Oberursel’s police have been able to catch a young man who is now accused of causing damage to property (“Sachbeschädigung”), specifically the B455 underpass.

On Wednesday, 17th July, 2013 at around 2.20am police in the Altkönigstraße became aware of the 17-year-old carrying a rucksack who was stopped and searched.  Police were patrolling the area due to the increase in car break-ins that had taken place in previous days.

As the young man was not carrying any form of identity with him, he was taken to the police station.  Although the patrol were not able to find damage to any cars, the rucksack was found to contain an assortment of graffiti equipment including spraycans and disposable gloves.  The man’s hands were also covered in fresh colour stains.  The cans and gloves were kept as evidence and his hands where photographed.

A short time later, after he had been released, another police patrol discovered fresh graffiti in the area near the B455 underpass.  A comparison of the paint used, the colours on the young’s hands and the particular type of shoes that had left footprints at the crime scene allowed them to conclude that he could be brought in connection with the graffiti and he was subsequently charged.

Police are now trying to find out if he is responsible for any other graffiti in the area.
