A 74-year-old driving an Audi A1 crashed attempting to make a U-Turn on the Königsteiner Straße (K772) on Tuesday, 7th January, 2014 at around 2pm.

B455 closed due to left luggage

The end of the B455 at the junction with the A661 was closed on Monday, 23rd September, 2013, when a suitcase and an 11kg gas cylinder were found on the side of the road.

Police closed off the area, the Red Cross were put on standby and the residents living close by were informed.

An inspection of the items found them not to be dangerours and detectives took the decision to re-open the road around three hours later.

It is believed that the items had been left by a white transporter with a Polish number plate around 10am that had stopped to deal with a tyre problem.  Police believe that they may have been left behind by mistake.  Witnesses are asked to call Bad Homburg police station on 06172 1200.

Graffiti sprayer caught

Oberursel’s police have been able to catch a young man who is now accused of causing damage to property (“Sachbeschädigung”), specifically the B455 underpass.

On Wednesday, 17th July, 2013 at around 2.20am police in the Altkönigstraße became aware of the 17-year-old carrying a rucksack who was stopped and searched.  Police were patrolling the area due to the increase in car break-ins that had taken place in previous days.

As the young man was not carrying any form of identity with him, he was taken to the police station.  Although the patrol were not able to find damage to any cars, the rucksack was found to contain an assortment of graffiti equipment including spraycans and disposable gloves.  The man’s hands were also covered in fresh colour stains.  The cans and gloves were kept as evidence and his hands where photographed.

A short time later, after he had been released, another police patrol discovered fresh graffiti in the area near the B455 underpass.  A comparison of the paint used, the colours on the young’s hands and the particular type of shoes that had left footprints at the crime scene allowed them to conclude that he could be brought in connection with the graffiti and he was subsequently charged.

Police are now trying to find out if he is responsible for any other graffiti in the area.

From the Ausländerbeirat…

When the Ausländerbeirat met on Monday (4th March, 2013), they may not have been prepared for the number of guests who turned up to put their questions to them. It may not sound that many, but those 6 (six) broke the record for past half year.

One of the reasons for this was a group from the Ahmadiyya community to ask for the committee’s support for their plans for a mosque in Oberursel. Currently the community have prayer rooms in the Dornbachstraße which they say are now at full capacity for their services with many of those who worship representing the 4th generation of families that have moved to Germany in the past.

If possible they would like to build a mosque in the town, rather than convert an existing building, and added that they were looking for support and not for funding. Franz Zenker, chairing the meeting, promised that the committee would support them and pass on their request to the town’s executive. [Read more…]
