Accident in Schulstrasse damaged water pipe

Police in Oberursel were called to the Schulstraße at 23:17 on Tuesday, 16th January, 2018 after reports of a “fountain” following a road traffic accident.

Apparently a vehicle hit a temporary pipe on the pavement that was carrying water to a nearby building site.  The driver left the scene of the accident without dealing with the damage, which is estimated to be at around several hundred Euros.

Witnesses reported the pipe had been broken, leaving water spurting several metres up into the air.  This was still the case when police arrived.

They were unable to stop the flow, and called for someone from the local waterworks (Stadtwerke) to attend, who subsequently turned off the water to the whole street.

Anyone with information as to who caused the accident is asked to call police in Oberursel on 06171 62400.

Moped driver fatally injured on road from Bad Homburg

A 53-year-old man from Oberursel was fatally injured on his way from Bad Homburg to Oberursel on Wednesday evening (3rd January, 2018).
According to police, he was travelling along the L3006 road at 6.45pm between the junctions with the Zeppelinstraße and the A661, when he was hit by a VW bus driven by a 35-year-old woman from Schmitten. As a result of the collision he was knocked to the ground and was taken to hospital, where he died later the same evening.
The driver from Schmitten, who also had three children in the vehicle, was unhurt. An expert was called to the scene of the accident, to try and find out what happened. Whilst this was going on the road was closed towards Oberursel and the fire brigade from Bad Homburg provided lighting to assist. They also cleaned the carriageway.

Intoxicated cyclist injured in accident

A cyclist was injured in an accident at 1.50am on Wednesday, 2nd August, 2017.  The 25-year-old from Ireland was travelling along the Lenaustraße towards the Hauffstraße when they lost control of their bike and fell.  They were taken to hospital by ambulance.

A breath test revealed that their blood alcohol content to be around 2 parts per thousand.  By comparison, the normal legal limit for driving a car in Germany is 0.5 parts per thousand.

The bicycle was undamaged.

Traffic lights damaged in accident

A black BMW being driven by an 18-year-old was travelling along the Frankfurter Landstraße on Saturday, 29th July, 2017 at 11.41pm.  On turning into the Homburger Landstraße the car for some unknown reason ended up travelling towarsds the middle of the road and in doing so hit the traffic lights.  These were pulled out of their anchorage, causing €13,000 of damage.

Accident on wet road

On Tuesday, 25th July, 2017 at 5.10pm a 26-year-old driver was travelling in his BMW 3 series along the Niederstedter Straße towards Bad Homburg, when he came of the road at a curve.  The road was wet and according to police he failed to adjust his speed.

The car hit a tree, leaving the driver injured.  He was taken to hospital in an ambulance.  The car is a write-off, with the damage estimated at €2.500.

 

Police asking for witnesses

Police are asking for witnesses to an attempted theft, a broken into car, and an accident.  All of which took place the weekend before last.

Thieves attempted to steal an Aprilia scooter (“Roller”) from the entrance to a courtyard sometime between 3pm on Sunday, 23rd July and 7pm on Monday, 24th July, 2017.  The scooter was locked up and they were unsuccessful, but caused several hundred Euros of damage in the process.

An Audi A3 was broken into on a car park in the Hohemarkstraße between 7pm on Sunday and 12 noon on Monday.  The passenger side window was smashed and a purse stolen from within the car which contained ID and bank cards.

And in “An der Heide” the front of a VW Passat estate (“Kombi”) was damaged between 6pm on Sunday and 11.15am on Monday.  The damage is estimated at €1,000.  The driver of the car that caused the damage drove off without leaving their details.

Witnesses are asked to call police in Oberursel on 06171 62400.

Car damaged in the Weilstraße

A black BMW has been damaged sometime between Friday, 21st July 11pm and Saturday, 22nd July, 2017, 6.50pm.

The car was parked on the left-hand-side of the Weilstraße in front of house number 22.  The rear bumper was damaged, although police do not know how it happened as the driver who caused the accident left without leaving their details.

Police are now asking for witnesses to call them on 06171 62400.

Traffic island in Oberstedten damaged

An accident occurred at the junction of the Niederstedter Straße and Hans-Mess-Straße in Oberstedten on Saturday, 15th July, 2017 at 7.55pm.

The 58-year-old driver of a Volkswagen Lupo entered the roundabout from the Niederstedter Straße and on leaving it damaged the curb of the traffic island.  The damage to the island and the car is estimated to be about €450.

Local police happened to be near and saw the accident happen.  Whilst taking down the details they suspected the driver of being under the influence of alcohol.  It then turned out that the driver did not have a driving license.

A blood sample was taken and the driver can now expect criminal proceeding against them for driving under the influence and without a license.

Porsche cars damaged in parking mistake

On Friday, 14th July, 2017 at 6pm a 21-year-old driver was leaving a parking space at the Audi centre in the Willy-Brandt-Straße.  Although they wanted to reverse their Ford Focus out of the space, they put it in the wrong gear and drove forwards instead.

The car then rolled about 20m before going down an embankment, where it hit two fences that fell over and damaged two Porsche cars in the process.

The damage to the three cars and the fence is estimated at €16,000 in total.

Incident on the road to the Feldberg

An incident on the L3004, the road that leads from Oberursel to the Feldberg, on Monday, 3rd July, 2017 has left police asking for witnesses to come forward.

At 5.30pm at the “Applauskurve” a 28-year-old cyclist and an 18-year-old motorcyclist were both travelling along the road.  The cyclist says that the motorcyclist tried to kick his rear wheel, damaging his bicycle.

No-one was injured, but police would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened on 06171 62400.
