Accident in Schulstrasse damaged water pipe

Police in Oberursel were called to the Schulstraße at 23:17 on Tuesday, 16th January, 2018 after reports of a “fountain” following a road traffic accident.

Apparently a vehicle hit a temporary pipe on the pavement that was carrying water to a nearby building site.  The driver left the scene of the accident without dealing with the damage, which is estimated to be at around several hundred Euros.

Witnesses reported the pipe had been broken, leaving water spurting several metres up into the air.  This was still the case when police arrived.

They were unable to stop the flow, and called for someone from the local waterworks (Stadtwerke) to attend, who subsequently turned off the water to the whole street.

Moped driver fatally injured on road from Bad Homburg

A 53-year-old man from Oberursel was fatally injured on his way from Bad Homburg to Oberursel on Wednesday evening (3rd January, 2018).
According to police, he was travelling along the L3006 road at 6.45pm between the junctions with the Zeppelinstraße and the A661, when he was hit by a VW bus driven by a 35-year-old woman from Schmitten. As a result of the collision he was knocked to the ground and was taken to hospital, where he died later the same evening.
The driver from Schmitten, who also had three children in the vehicle, was unhurt. An expert was called to the scene of the accident, to try and find out what happened. Whilst this was going on the road was closed towards Oberursel and the fire brigade from Bad Homburg provided lighting to assist. They also cleaned the carriageway.

Traffic lights damaged in accident

A black BMW being driven by an 18-year-old was travelling along the Frankfurter Landstraße on Saturday, 29th July, 2017 at 11.41pm.  On turning into the Homburger Landstraße the car for some unknown reason ended up travelling towarsds the middle of the road and in doing so hit the traffic lights.  These were pulled out of their anchorage, causing €13,000 of damage.

Accident on the Lahnstraße

An accident on the Lahnstraße (B456) on Friday afternoon (7th July, 2017) caused an estimated €28,000 of damage.

A 33-year-old driver in a Ford car approached the crossing with the Dornbachstraße coming from Bad Homburg and wanted to turn left into the Alte-Leipziger-Platz.  They oversaw an Audi coming out of Oberursel and travelling towards Bad Homburg.  The cars hit each other and the Ford ended up on its roof, leaving the driver with slightly injured.

B456 closed this morning, one dead

The B456 road connecting Oberursel with Bad Homburg was closed this morning, Tuesday, 4th July, 2017, after an accident.
A 73-year-old man from Hanau was driving his BMW towards Dornholzhausen when, near the Oberstedten exit, he hit the oncoming traffic, first hitting a VW driven by a 60-year-old man. The VW hit the crash barrier and bounced back onto the road.
Meanwhile the BMW continued on the left-hand side of the road and hit another VW, driven by a 26-year-old woman from Bad Homburg, head on. Both drivers were stuck in their vehicles and had to be freed by the emergency services.
The 73-year-old was unconscious at the scene and later died in hospital. The 26-year-old was taken to hospital with serious injuries, although these are not said to be life-threatening.
Three ambulances, two emergency doctors and a number of police and the fire brigade all attended. The road was closed from 7am until 9.30am, causing a considerable amount of traffic to travel through Bad Homburg instead.

Witnesses sought after accident in the Schulstrasse

Police are looking for witnesses after a white Opel Corsa, parked in the Schulstraße in Oberursel, was hit by another car sometime between 10pm on Thursday, 29th June, and 2pm on Friday, 30 June, 2017.
The other car left the scene of the accident without the driver reporting it.

Accident on the Lahnstrasse

An accident on the Lahnstraße on Tuesday, 25th April, 2017 at 6.45 in the evening caused €13,500 worth of damage according to local police.
A Ford Focus with a 40-year-old driver from the Wetteraukreis was driving along the Dornbachstraße towards the “Alte Leipziger-Platz”, and wanted to turn left at the crossing with the Lahnstraße.
An Opel Corsa, driven by a 66-year-old man from Oberursel hat right of way, causing the driver of the Ford Focus to brake.
The 20-year-old-driver of a VW Golf from Friedriedrichsdorf noticed this too late and hit the Focus from behind, pushing it into the path of the Corsa.
Luckily, no-one was hurt.

Car flipped over on the Kanonenstraße

Monday evening (26th May, 2014) saw another accident on the Kanonenstraße.  A Ford Ranger, being driven by a 50-year-old from Schmitten was travelling up the hill Oberursel towards the Sandplacken.

At the 6.3km point at the end of a left-hand bend the driver appears to have lost control of the vehicle, which police suggest may be due to travelling too fast on the wet road.  The car skidded of the road, hitting the crash barrier and flipping over, injuring the driver and causing €21,000 of damage.

Fatal accident on Kanonenstraße

A fatal accident occured in the Kanonenstraße on Sunday, 20th April, 2014.

A 40-year-old-motorcyclist was travelling from the Sandplacken towards Oberursel, when he applied the brakes before the road took a turn to the right.

He ended up on the wrong side of the road, where he was hit by an oncoming vehicle travelling in the opposite direction, before being hit by a further vehicle which was also travelling up the hill.

Despite resuscitation attempts, the motorcyclist died at the scene of the accident.  Police estimate the damage to the vehicles involved to total around €24,000.

Car collided with U-Bahn

A 56-year-old from Bad Homburg was driving along the Hohemarkstraße in his Fiat Doblo towards the Hohemark on Wednesday, 12th March, 2014.  At around 1.15pm he went to turn left across the tracks of the U-Bahn near house number 106.

However he oversaw the U-Bahn that was travelling in the same direction.  The car and the U-Bahn collided, with the car being pushed along the track and squashed between the train and the railings.

The car is a write-off, the driver and his passenger were slightly hurt.  The total damage is put at around €20,000.  The U-Bahn was damaged but was able to be driven away under its own power once the track had been cleared.
