Speed checks on the road to the Feldberg

Speed camera - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / AngelstormOnce again the police in Oberursel (Ordnungspolizei) have carried out speed checks on the road leading to the Feldberg, but this time they did them on several days.

Between 11.30am and 1pm on the 4th, 10th and 16th of August, they not only used speed cameras, but also stopped and checked vehicles to make sure that the correct paperwork was in the car, as well as first aid kits and warning triangles.

The fastest vehicle caught was travelling at 99km/h in a section of the road where only 60km/h is allowed.

Wild animals on the Kanonenstrasse

About €9,200 of damage are estimated to have been caused when a 29-year-old driver braked to avoid hitting wild animals on the Kanonenstraße.

The driver was travelling along the road towards Oberursel in his Mitsubishi at around 5.20am on Thursday, 30th October, 2014, when he noticed a herd of wild animals standing on the road.  He braked so hard, that the car skidded and hit the crash barrier.

Car flipped over on the Kanonenstraße

Monday evening (26th May, 2014) saw another accident on the Kanonenstraße.  A Ford Ranger, being driven by a 50-year-old from Schmitten was travelling up the hill Oberursel towards the Sandplacken.

At the 6.3km point at the end of a left-hand bend the driver appears to have lost control of the vehicle, which police suggest may be due to travelling too fast on the wet road.  The car skidded of the road, hitting the crash barrier and flipping over, injuring the driver and causing €21,000 of damage.

Accident on the Kanonenstraße

An accident on the Kanonenstraße between the Sandplacken and Applausekurve left one person injured and caused €9,000 of damage on Monday morning (26th May, 2014).

The 20-year-old driver of a VW Polo was travelling downhill from the Sandplacken just before 8am when her car skidded in a right-hand bend due to the road being wet.  She collided with a transporter travelling in the opposite direction, sustaining bruising and grazes in the process.

The 54-year-old driver of the Mercedes transporter was unhurt, but police closed the road off until 10.15am to allow the vehicles to be removed and the escaped fuel to be cleared up.

Speed checks on the road to the Feldberg

Speed camera - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / AngelstormOnce again the police in Oberursel (Ordnungspolizei) have carried out speed checks on the road leading to the Feldberg, but this time (12th April, 2014) they chose a stretch between the Sandplacken and the Red Cross station.

Between 4.10pm and 6.10pm they measured the speed of 540 vehicles travelling uphill on a section of the road where a speed limit of 60km/h is in place.

33 of those measured were travelling too fast, with one motorcycle travelling at 121km/h. The driver faces a €240 fine, 4 points on their license, and a one month driving ban.

By comparison, the fasted car was “only” travelling at 83km/h, the driver of which can expect a €30 fine.

Fatal accident on Kanonenstraße

A fatal accident occured in the Kanonenstraße on Sunday, 20th April, 2014.

A 40-year-old-motorcyclist was travelling from the Sandplacken towards Oberursel, when he applied the brakes before the road took a turn to the right.

He ended up on the wrong side of the road, where he was hit by an oncoming vehicle travelling in the opposite direction, before being hit by a further vehicle which was also travelling up the hill.

Despite resuscitation attempts, the motorcyclist died at the scene of the accident.  Police estimate the damage to the vehicles involved to total around €24,000.
