Accident on the Kanonenstraße

Unfallzeit: Freitag, 08.02.2013 19:03 Uhr

Unfallort: 61440 Oberursel, L3004, Kanonenstraße

An accident which caused around €36,000 of damage took place on the Kanonenstraße (L3004) last Friday evening, 8th February, 2013.

A 21-year-old driver from Schmitten  was travelling along the road in a BMW towards Oberursel.  A 41-year-old driver, also from Schmitten, was travelling in the opposite direction in a Renault.

The BMW driver lost control of her vehicle in one of the curves due to ice on the road.  The car ended up on the opposite side of the road where it collided with the Renault.

The Renault hit the crash barrier and flipped onto the right-hand side of the car, however the driver was able to free himself.  Both drivers were slightly hurt.

Three more accidents on the Kanonenstraße

Last Friday (11th January 2013), three accidents took place on the Kanonenstraße between 3pm and 9pm.

The first one at around 3pm involved a driver from Schmitten who was travelling from Oberursel towards the Sandplacken when she lost control of her vehicle and first hit the left crash barrier before hitting the right one.  Police believe the accident was caused by patches of ice on the road.  The driver was slightly injured and complained of back pains.  Although an ambulance attended she was not taken to hospital.  The car had to be towed away, with the damage estimated at €2,400.

Just after 6.15pm another driver from Schmitten travelling in the opposite direction suffered the same fate just 500m away from the site of the first accident, hitting the crash barrier on one side of the road and then the other at a bend.  Luckily she was unhurt, although the damage is estimated at €4,500.

Finally at 9pm a driver from Langenselbold was travelling up the road towards the Sandplacken when again, due to ice on the road, she lost control of her vehicle at a point on the road between the sites of the other two accidents.  The car hit one of the crash barriers, but the driver was again unhurt.  The damage is estimated at €2,650.

Kanonenstraße closed after accident

After this, the Golf had a head-on collision with a Ford Cougar driven by a 41-year old from Frankfurt.

The driver of the Cougar was slightly injured, although the driver of the Golf more seriously.  Fuel leaked from the vehicles, resulting in Oberursel’s fire brigade being called to the scene.  The road was fully closed for two hours until around 6.50pm.
