Jazz meets mills – Jazz meets Mühle

“Jazz meets Mühle” is being held for the fifth time this year, and is again being held on Whitmonday, 16th May 2016, and involves as always the mills along the Mühlenwanderweg.

At five places along the route there will be jazz bands playing, with refreshments available and a chance to see the historical buildings from a new perspective.

Although the event itself will be taking place between 11am and 5.30pm, the bands are playing at different times along the route, allowing visitors to experience each one in turn.

Jazz meets Mühle 2016The five locations are:

Schuckardtsmühle

Now known as “Haus der Naturfreunde”, or Altkönigstraße nr. 53, Quincy Kline and Martin Lejeune will open the proceedings at 11am with the “Verein der Naturfreunde” providing the refreshments.  A water-wheel still works here, but is not the original wheel and is only for demonstration purposes.   At 2.30pm Vagabondoj will be playing.

Kürtellsmühle

This building is now better known as the home of the “Adam Koch” plumbing company at Altkönigstraße nr. 43, however Adam Koch himself used to be a mill builder.  Ute Jeutter and the Georg Boeßner Trio will be performing at 12pm, with the Corina Danzer Band and Veselin Popov following at 2.30pm.

Herrenmühle

The building, An der Herrenmühle 7-9, is one that many people have walked passed without knowing much about its history, as it is next to the Bleiche car park. A large water wheel is still visible from the Hollerberg path.  The Mitja Skobernes Trio will be playing with Peter Klomann on saxophone at 12.30pm, followed by La Vida’s Newlinz Fonktion at 4pm.

Vortaunusmuseum

The museum is located at the top end of the market square and contains examples of millstones and other interesting pieces of technology from the mills’ hayday.  Don Hein’s International Zigan Combo will start things off at 12pm with refreshments being arranged by the neighbouring Ratskeller restaurant.  They will be followed at 2.30pm by the Powerhouse-Swingtett who, as the name suggests, will be playing swing.  Finally, La Vida’s Nawlinz Fonktion will be playing New Orleans Marching Brass music at 3pm.

Hospitalkirche

The courtyard next to the Hospitalkirche is one of the locations again this year, where the group Crotches will be playing, Klezmer music at 12pm.  They will be followed at 1pm by Peter Hermann’s New Orleans Nawlinz Lagniappe and 3pm by La Vida’s Nawlin Fonktion.
