Theft thwarted, police looking for witnesses

A shop lifter tried to take an espresso-making machine worth €500 from a shop in the “Vorstadt” on Friday morning (19th April, 2013).

He hid the machine in a plastic bag and left the shop before trying to get away on a bicycle.  An employee of the shop concerned hurried after him and managed to hold onto the bicycle carrier.

The thief got off the bicycle, pushing it towards the employee, before fleeing on foot.  Another employee followed him and managed to stop him near the Stadthalle.  Although they regained the carrier bag with the machine in it, the thief was able to run off.

He is described as 45 years old, 1.80m tall and well-built, with short, dark blond hair.  He was wearing a dark sweat-jacket and a black- and white neck scarf.  On his forehead he had a conspicuous birth mark.

Witnesses are asked to call Oberursel’s police station on 06171 62400.
