“Jazz meets Mühle” is an event being held in Oberursel on Sunday, 19th August, 2012 along the Mühlenwanderweg.
At four places along the route there will be jazz bands playing, with refreshments available and a chance to see the historical buildings from a new perspective.
Although the event itself will be taking place between 10am and 5pm, the bands are playing at different times along the route, allowing visitors to experience each one in turn.
The four locations are:
Schuckardtsmühle
Now known as “Haus der Naturfreunde”, or Altkönigstraße nr. 53, a trio known as “Coeur du Bois” will be playing gipsy-style jazz at 11am with the “Verein der Naturfreunde” providing the refreshments. A water-wheel still works here, but is not the original wheel and is only for demonstration purposes.
Kürtellsmühle
This building is now better known as the home of the “Adam Koch” plumbing company at Altkönigstraße nr. 43, however Adam Koch himself used to be mill builder. The modern jazz music will be played by the “Georg Boeßner Trio” at 12pm and the cycling club (Radfahrverein) from Bommersheim will be providing the freshments.
Herrenmühle
The building, An der Herrenmühle 7-9, is one that many people have walked passed without knowing much about its history, as it is next to the Bleiche car park. A large water wheel is still visible from the Hollerberg path. The classical jazz, blues and swing music will be played by the Trevor Richards Trio at 1pm, with refreshments from Pizzeria Pepperoni.
Vortaunusmuseum
The museum is located at the top end of the market square and contains examples of millstones and other interesting pieces of technology from the mills’ hayday. The Powerhouse-Swingtett will be playing swing, as the name suggests, from 2pm onwards, with refreshments being arranged by the museum.
If the combination of history, music, culture and gastronomy prove to be a success, then further such events may be planned in future.

The group, also known as “Kicks & Sticks”, will be joined by American jazz singer Madeline Bell to perform a repertoire of classic swing from the “Great American Songbook”, led by conductor Wolfgang Diefenbach.
The Markplatz is in the centre of the town and the nearest U-Bahn station is “Oberursel Altstadt”
The “Eastend Jazz Band” will be playing “cool jazz” at the Alt-Oberurseler Brauhaus in the Ackergasse on Monday, 13th June, 2011 (Pfingstmontag) between 12pm and 3pm.

There is a special treat for Jazz fans taking place on the evening before the Hessentag in Oberursel.
On Thursday, 9th June at 9pm there will be a “Jazz Meeting” at the Musikhalle Portstraße, during which the Jazz musicians who will be holding workshops throughout the main event get together to form a unique jazz band for one evening.
Taking part are Achille Succi (saxophone), Krzysztof Przybylowicz (drums), Jeanmarie Ribis (piano), Dominque Di Piazza (bass) and Michael Sagmeister (guitar).
As this part of Oberursel will be closed off during the night (green zone), it will probably be best to travel by train. Take the U-Bahn to “Altstadt” (previously known as “Portstraße”).
Jazz meets Gospel at the Hessentag in Oberursel on Monday, 13th June at 7.30pm in the Liebfrauenkirche.
The evening features Christoph Schönherr with “Magnificat”, Robert Ray with “Gospel Mass” and the Choir “Tontauben” from Oberursel-Weißkirchen conducted by Mark Opeskin.
The Church “Liebfrauenkirche” is located in the Berliner Straße, half way between the U-Bahn stations “Altstadt” and “Stadtmitte”.
