A 3,000 step walk for senior citizens is taking place in Weißkirchen on Wednesday, 18th January 2017.
To take part, be at the “Altes Rathaus” (Urselbachstraße 59) at 9.30am.
The monthly flea market in the Adenauerallee in Oberursel will take place on Saturday, 21st January 2017 between 7am and 1pm.
The flea market starts at the end of the pedestrian zone and continues the length of the Adenauerallee and over the railway lines towards Bommersheim. One part also takes place in the Nassauer Straße next to the U-Bahn tracks.
To get there by train take either the line U3 or S5 to Oberursel’s main station.
The Seniorentreff in the “Altes Hospital” (Hospitalstraße 9) will be holding a breakfast buffet on Friday, 20th January 2017 between 9am and 11am.
To take part, register in advance by calling 06171 585333 and leave a message on the answerphone if necessary by Tuesday the week before.
The Verbraucherzentrale (consumers’ association) will be offering individual energy saving consultations in the Rathaus in Oberursel on Thursday, 19th January 2017.
Appointments cost €5 for 30 minutes, and €2.50 for each 15 minutes after that. They need to be arranged in advance by calling 06171 502-310.
Due to the amount of ice and snow on the ground the weekly market on this coming Saturday, 14th January, 2017, will be moved to the Epinay-Platz.
Carol singers in German do not go from house to house before Christmas eve, they do it afterwards instead – specifically between 27th December and 6th January.
During this time, the so-called “Sternsinger”, organised by the local church and who are sometimes translated as “star boys”, go from house to house to collect for a particular good cause using the year’s motto and dressed as the Three Kings.
The money raised this year will mainly be going towards projects to help children in Kenya. With the whole country taking part, it is not unusual to raise over €40 million.

The Stadtwerke have informed us that the bus drivers in Oberursel will be continuing their strike action for an indefinite period. Therefore, apart from maintenance work taking place, the depot has been temporarily closed.
None of their bus services will be running, including any of the school services, ie. on routes 41 – 49 and n31 until the strike is resolved.
The follow regional bus services are not affected: 50, 51, 57, 59, 60, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 68, 69, 80, 81, 82, 83, 84, 85, 86 and n34.
Routes X26, X27, 251, 252 and 261 are operated by a different company that may be subject to strike action.
Tuesday night is film night at Bluebox Portstraße, located near the U-Bahn stop “Altstadt”.
As the organisation is not a commercial cinema, they are not allowed to advertise which film will be shown in advance. For Tuesday, 17th January 2017, we are told that it will be a tragic German comedy. If you do want to know which film will be shown then call 06171 636930 and they will tell you.
The showing starts at 9pm.
