As the organisation is not a commercial cinema, they are not allowed to advertise which film will be shown in advance. For Tuesday, 6th May, 2014, we are told that it will be a co-operation with Amnesty International. If you do want to know which film will be shown then call 06171 636930 and they will tell you.

The showing starts at 8pm.

From the Ausländerbeirat: The Last and the Longest

The last meeting of the Ausländerbeirat in 2013 was also the longest this year, lasting a staggering 2½ hours.

One of the reasons was no doubt the visit by members of Amnesty International to talk about the developments in the case of the Yang Family, which have been reported on in detail in a separate article.

A Petition for the Yang Family

The Yang family live in Stierstadt, one of the suburbs of Oberursel.  For the past two weeks their story has hardly been out of the local newspapers, and at the last meeting of the Ausländerbeirat on Monday, 25th November, 2013, two representatives from Amnesty International came along to explain what it is all about.

The story begins 10 years ago when Mr. Yang came to Germany from China without a visa, but as an asylum seeker.  Mrs. Yang – at the time no relation – came later by foot!  She also applied for asylum, claiming that her family was discriminated against at home because her parents had had more than one child.

Their asylum applications were turned down, but as they did not have sufficient identification on them to travel back, their presence in Germany was tolerated – geduldet”. [Read more…]

For Tuesday, 12th November, 2013, we are told that it will be a film about the prison at Guantanamo Bay and shown in co-operation with Amnesty International. If you do want to know which film will be shown then call 06171 636930 and they will tell you.

The showing starts at 8pm.

Walls of Resistance

An exhibition entitled “Walls of Resistance” about Street Art and human rights in Egypt can be viewed until Friday, 5th July, 2013 in the foyer of the town hall (Rathaus).

The pictures are accompanied by background information about Egypt, its culture and the situation in the Middle East.

The exhibition is a co-operation between the equal opportunities department in the town hall and the local Amnesty International group.
