Jazz meets mills – Jazz meets Mühle

“Jazz meets Mühle” is being held for the fourth time this year, and is again being held on Whitmonday, 25th May 2015, and involves as always the mills along the Mühlenwanderweg.

At four places along the route there will be jazz bands playing, with refreshments available and a chance to see the historical buildings from a new perspective.

Although the event itself will be taking place between 11am and 5.30pm, the bands are playing at different times along the route, allowing visitors to experience each one in turn. [Read more…]

Jazz meets Mills – Jazz meets Mühle – under a baking hot sun

The third edition of the “Jazz meets Mills” event on Whitmonday, 9th June, 2014, certainly had better weather than the previous year.  It was hot.  Very hot.

The day started at the Schuckardsmühle, now known as the “Haus der Naturfreunde”, on the Mühlenwanderweg with Mayor Hans-Georg Brum and Fountain Queen Carolyn II. opening the proceedings, before The Bandstand feat. Valentin Garvie kicked off the music. [Read more…]

Jazz meets Mühle - 2012 flyer“Jazz meets Mühle” is being held for the third time this year, and slightly earlier in the year as well.  The 2014 event takes place on Whitmonday, 9th June and involves as always the mills along the Mühlenwanderweg.

Recipients of the Citizens’ Medal 2012

The citizens’ medals 2012 were awarded to:

1. Manfred Kopp for his work as a local historian, which includes putting together the archive of documents about Camp King, 1933-1993.  The archive is due to be re-located to its new permanent home in the “Kinderhaus”, previously known as “House Florida”.  Since 2003 he has also been responsible for training the town guides (“Stadtführer”) and he himself offers several tours of the Camp King area each year.

2. Inge and Dr. Eberhard Laeuen, who were among the initiators of the working group “Nie wieder 1933” (never again 1933), which was set up in 1981 to research and document the crimes that took place during the Nazi period in Oberursel.  They were also among the initiators of the “Initiative Opferdenkmal e.V.” (victims’ memorial) foundation in 2008, whose aim is to create a lasting memorial for the victims of the National Socialist regime who came from the town.

They received their medals during the Bürgerempfang in November 2012.

New figures for the Victim’s Memorial

The Victim's Memorial (Opferdenkmal) in OberurselTwo new figures will be added to the Victim’s Memorial (Opferdenkmal) in a ceremony on Wednesday, 16th November, 2011 at 4pm.  The memorial is located in the grounds of the old hospital, just off the Strackgasse.

The memorial is being created piece by piece, with new figures added each time that sufficient donations have been collected.

Concert in aid of the Victims’ Memorial

The Victim's Memorial (Opferdenkmal) in OberurselA concert in aid of the victims’ memorial (Opferdenkmal) in Oberursel is being held at the Hospitalkirche in the Strackgasse on Wednesday, 9th November 2011 at 7.30pm.

The group group “HochtaunusStreicher”, conducted by Claudia Louise Weigand, will be playing pieces by Johann Sebastian Bach, Joseph Haydn, Johann Pachelbel and Edvard Grieg.

There will also be a reading of Kressmann Taylor’s “Address Unknown”.
