Steam trains

DampflokThe Dampfbahnclub-Taunus e.V. steam railway in Oberursel will be open to the public on Sunday, 10th August, 2014 between 10am and 5pm.

Located at the end of the Mainstraße, entry costs €1,50 for adults and €0,50 for children. Children receive one ticket to go on the trains in the entry price, additional tickets are €0,50 each.

To get there, either leave the A661/B455 at “Oberursel-Nord” towards Oberursel, then take the first turning right into the Dornbachstraße. The Mainstraße is on the right-hand side.

By U-Bahn, take the U3 to Lahnstraße and cross the road before turning left into the Dornbachstraße.

Flea Market at the Seniorentreff

Flea Market - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / photoflorenzoThe Seniorentreff in Oberursel will be holding a flea market on Saturday, 9th August, 2014 between 9am and 1pm in the “Altes Hospital” (Hospitalstraße 9).

They will also be serving coffee, tea, cold drinks, grilled sausages and home-made waffles.

In this month children and teenagers can set up their own stalls in the courtyard by bringing either a table or blanket.  However in the event of bad weather they will not be able to take the stall inside.  They should  also call 06171 585333 in advance to reserve a space.

3,000 step walk for senior citizens

To take part, be at the Christuskirche in the Oberhöchstädter Straße at 3pm.

Energy saving advice

Energy Saving Calculator - ©iStockphoto.com/alexslThe Verbraucherzentrale (consumers’ association) will be offering individual energy saving consultations in the Rathaus in Oberursel on Thursday, 7th August, 2014.

Appointments cost €5 for 30 minutes, and €2.50 for each 15 minutes after that. They need to be arranged in advance by calling 06171 502-310.

Find out how the Celts lived in Oberursel

A celtic funeral pileA tour entitled “Das keltische Leben am Fuße des Feldbergs” (celtic life at the foot of the Feldberg) is being held on Saturday, 9th August, 2014 at 2pm.

The tour starts at the Taunus Information Centre and costs €5 per person, those taking part should have sturdy footwear.

The 14th Rheingau Wine Festival was opened on Friday by Mayor Hans-Georg Brum.

With him were Fountain Queen Carolyn II. and Brunnenmeister Harry (left), along with visiting dignitaries the Hattenheim Wine Queen Louisa Follrich and Oestrich Wine Princess Sophie Egert.

6th Oberursel Feyerey

The middle ages will be coming to Oberursel at the weekend when the 6th annual “Feyerey” takes place on the fields next to the “Bachpfädchen”.

Over 50 market stands will offering food and drink, hand-made goods, and items such as soap and honey.

There will be games for children, fire shows, music and dancing, and even shows with birds of prey.  Click here for the times of the shows.

The event takes place on the fields between the Mühlenwanderweg and the Marxstraße.  To get there, either park on the field between the Marxstraße and the Hohemarkstraße or take the U-Bahn to “Lahnstraße”. [Read more…]
