Breakfast Cinema at Bluebox Portstrasse

Once a month the Bluebox Portstraße holds a Sunday morning breakfast buffet in their cinema.
As the organisation is not a commercial cinema, they are not allowed to advertise which film will be shown in advance. For Sunday, 12th Noveber 2017, we are told that it will be a film about a generation. If you do want to know which film will be shown or to reserve tickets call 06171 636930.
The showing starts at 11.30am and they are located opposite the U-Bahn stop “Altstadt”.
Large book flea market at the library

There will be a large book flea market in Oberursel’s library between Wednesday, 8th and Saturday, 11th November, 2017 with proceeds going to the library’s supporters’ association.
This market takes place on the 1st floor and has a larger selection of books than the monthly one, so there are usually foreign-language books there as well.
The opening times are:
Wednesday 10-1 & 3-6
Thursday 10-1 & 3-7
Friday 10-1 & 3-6
Saturday 10-1
The library is located at one end of the market square in Oberursel, in the Eppsteinerstraße.
The nearest car parks are “Bleiche” and in the Holzweg. The nearest train station is Altstadt (U3).
Breakfast Buffet at the Seniorentreff

The Seniorentreff in the “Altes Hospital” (Hospitalstraße 9) will be holding a breakfast buffet on Friday, 10th November, 2017 between 9am and 10.30am, with food and drink costing €6 per person.

3,000 step walk for senior citizens

The Seniorentreff in Oberursel will be offering a 3,000 step walk on Wednesday, 8th November 2017.
To take part, be at the Christuskirche in the Oberhöchstädter Straße at 3pm.

Tuesday night is film night at Bluebox Portstraße, located near the U-Bahn stop “Altstadt”.

Children’s cinema in the Portstrasse

The bluebox portstrasse will be showing a film for children aged 4 and over on Friday, 3rd November, 2017 at 3pm. Entry costs €2 per child, with free entry for one accompanying adult.
The bluebox is located opposite the U-Bahn station “Altstadt” (formerly “Portstraße”).
Energy saving advice

The Verbraucherzentrale (consumers’ association) will be offering individual energy saving consultations in the Rathaus in Oberursel on Thursday, 2nd November 2017.
Appointments cost €5 for 30 minutes, and €2.50 for each 15 minutes after that. They need to be arranged in advance by calling 06171 502-310.
Sirens to be tested on Saturday morning

Although the members of the fire brigade in Oberursel are usually equipped with pagers, the town also operates a system of sirens to alert them should a major catastrophe take place and the local infrastructure be affected.
These sirens were once part of a national network, but when the network was decommissioned in the 1990s the town decided to keep them and operate them locally.
The system is due to be tested on Saturday, 28th October, 2017 between 12 noon and 12.30pm. The test signal lasts for one minute and is made up of three 12-second signals with pauses between them.
There is no cause for alarm if you hear that signal between those times!
The sirens are located at the fire stations, or in Oberstedten’s case where the fire station used to be:
- Marxstraße 34
- Kalbacher Straße 10 (Bommersheim)
- Kirchstraße 34 (Oberstedten)
- Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Straße 2 (Weißkirchen)
- Gartenstraße 5 (Stierstadt)
