FC Porto win Allianz U15 Cup

The “Allianz U15 Cup against racism” took place in Oberursel at the weekend with 18 teams competing against each other in a series of matches.

Saturday morning started off with the news that flight scheduled to bring Tottenham Hotspur’s team to Frankfurt had been cancelled and so local team FV Stierstadt stepped in at the last minute to allow the matches to take place.  Although they finished on 18th place, this led to them being awarded the Fair Play award on Sunday afternoon. U-Bahn replaced with buses next week

Due to work taking place on the line, the U-Bahn U3 will be replaced with buses for the next two weeks.

From Monday, 13th August until Sunday, 26th August (2018) the rails at “Oberursel Bahnhof” are being replaced, so the trains will not be running between “Hohemark” and “Weißkirchen Ost”.  A replacement bus service will be in operation, with buses running every 15 minutes in the daytime and every 30 minutes at evenings and weekends.  From Thursday, 23rd August until Sunday, 26th August there are also no trains between “Weißkirchen Ost” and “Niederursel”, so the bus service will be extended to meet trains on the U8 route. Allianz U15 Cup against racism

This coming weekend (11th/12th August, 2018) a host of football teams from around Europe will be coming to Oberursel to take part in the “Allianz U15 Cup against racism”.

On football pitches usually used by local teams from Eintracht Oberursel and Frankfurt International School, matches will take place between the following teams, including some of the best under-15 talent on the continent:

Chelsea FC, FC Porto, Tottenham Hotspurs, Glasgow Rangers, RSC Anderlecht, Slavia Prag and Red Star Belgrade

Bayern Munich, Schalke 04, VfL Wolfsburg, VfB Stuttgart, Eintracht Frankfurt, FSV Mainz, RB Leipzig and Hertha BSC

Water shortage – Drinking water use restricted

The amount of drinking water being using in Oberursel at the moment has not changed since the water works put out their request to use it sparingly.  Today, they declared that the town is heading for a “Trinkwassernotstand” – an emergency situation.

If the water usage continues, they will be unable to provide sufficient water for the system using their own supplies and those which are available from other areas.

As such, residents are to refrain from using drinking water for anything other than human use. [Read more…]

10th Oberursel Feyerey

The middle ages will be coming to Oberursel at the weekend when the 10th annual “Feyerey” takes place on the fields next to the “Bachpfädchen”.

Over 68 market stands will offering food and drink, hand-made goods, and items such as soap and honey.

There will be games for children, fire shows, music and dancing, and even shows with birds of prey.  Click here for the times of the shows.

The event takes place on the fields between the Mühlenwanderweg and the Marxstraße.  To get there, either park on the field between the Marxstraße and the Hohemarkstraße or take the U-Bahn to “Lahnstraße”. [Read more…]

18th Rheingau Wine Festival

The 18th Rheingau Wine Festival in Oberursel is being held between Friday 3rd August and Sunday 5th August 2018 on the Marktplatz.

Many of the vineyards at the festival will be familiar to those who have been before, as they have been coming for a number of years and often have their stands in the same place each year.

Visitors can expect to find selected Riesling and Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) wines from towns such as Lorch, Hattenheim, Hochheim, Giesenheim, Erbach, Johannisberg and Oestrich-Winkel.

There will also be a variety of food on offer, including Flammkuchen (Tarte Flambee) and (Zwiebelkuchen) Onion cake.

The festival will be officially opened on Friday evening at 6.30pm. [Read more…]

Couple robbed and attacked at home

A couple have been attacked and robbed at their home in the “An den Drei Hasen” area of Oberursel.

The 67-year-old occupant of the house opened the door at around 8.40am on Monday, 11th June, 2018, to let the cat in.  At this point two masked men forced their way into the house, where they punched the woman and demanded cash.  Shortly after this her 73-year-old husband arrived.  He was also punched and the demand for cash was repeated, along with a demand for jewelry. This weekend is Brunnenfest

This weekend sees one of the largest festivals in Oberursel take place – the fountain festival or Brunnenfest.

The event kicks off on Friday evening at 5.30pm with an open-air church service at the Marktplatz followed by the official opening with Fountain Queen Anna-Lena I.

Other highlights include the inauguration of the “St.Crutzen” Fountain on Saturday morning in Weißkirchen in the grounds of St.Crutzen Church at 11am and the 5, 10 and 21.1km festival runs on Sunday morning at 10am.

For children up to the age of 10 the Kindermeile will be in the Obere Hainstraße on Saturday between 3pm and 6pm and the annual duck race on the Urselbach will be held on Sunday at 3pm with tickets being sold on Saturday in the Weidengasse.

Saturday evening there will also be a talent show for the town’s youth to show what they can do from 5pm until 7pm.  The show is aptly named “Kickfactor: … and what can you do?”

The fun fair is in its usual place on the Bleiche car park as is the craft market in front of the town hall, with the closing fireworks taking place at 10.30pm on Monday evening. [Read more…]

Jazz meets mills – Jazz meets Mühle

“Jazz meets Mühle” is being held for the seventh time this year, and is again being held on Whitmonday, 21st May 2018, and involves as always the mills along the Mühlenwanderweg.

At six places along the route there will be jazz bands playing, with refreshments available and a chance to see the historical buildings from a new perspective.

Although the event itself will be taking place between 11am and 5pm, the bands are playing at different times along the route, allowing visitors to experience each one in turn. [Read more…]
