Sternenfest – Star festival – at the Waldorf School

The Waldorf School (Freie Waldorfschule Vordertaunus) in OberurselThe Waldorf School in Oberursel (Freie Waldorfschule Vordertaunus) is holding a “Sternenfest” on Saturday, 23rd November, 2013.

The festival opens at 12 Noon with a bazaar between 1pm and 5pm, followed by singing.

Children in classes 5 to 7 will be performing a “dance of the stars” and the school band will also be playing.

For €5, children can take part in five activities, and the price includes a drink of juice and a piece of cake, allowing them to move around the school freely without their parents.

The school is located in the Eichwäldchenweg, but parking spaces near the school are limited.

To go by train, take the U3 line to Kupferhammer and cross over the main road to enter the Eichwäldchenweg.

At 12 Noon there is a chance to see the school itself, followed by a musical introduction.  A bazaar will then follow between 1pm and 5pm, following by singing.

A new manager at the monthly celebration for the Waldorf School

Each month the children of the Waldorf School in Oberursel, the Freie Waldorfschule Vordertaunus, show each other what they have learnt in a „Monatsfeier“. Twice a year this is held in public so that their parents and anyone else who is interested can come along and watch.

Dr. Ralf Gissel (Photo: Freie Waldorfschule Vordertaunus)The public Monatsfeier this autumn was not only a chance to do just that in the Stadthalle, but also to meet the school’s new manager, Dr. Ralf Gissel.

Now the idea of a school having a “manager” (Geschäftsführer) may sound pretty strange, but maybe it is the terminology that makes it that way. Dr. Gissel, himself a parent of 3 children who have visited or are still at the school, explained that the “head” of the school is split into three roles. There is the academic head, the manager and the chair of the charity (e.V.). The academic head can concentrate on academic matters within the school, while the charity is concerned with raising the money to fund it.

The manager sits between the two and is responsible for the administrative part of the school for which he has six employees and many of the parents in supporting roles.

Eurythmy evening in Oberstedten

The public performance is being organised by year 12 students.

Eurythmy is a combination of music, dance, rhythm and words and is taught as a subject in its own right at the school.

Open day at the Waldorf school

The Waldorf school in the North-end of Oberursel is holding an open day on Saturday, 11th February, 2012 between 9am and 12 noon.

They will be showing how they teach at the three different levels within the school, as well as number of specialist subjects.

The school is located in the Eichwäldchenweg. Take the U3 train to Kupferhammer and then cross the Hohemarkstraße to get there.
