3,000 step walk for senior citizens in Stierstadt

To take part, be at the bus stop “Altes Rathaus” in Stierstadt at 3pm.

A tour of Camp King

Camp KingOn Saturday, 25th August, 2012 there will be a tour of the area in Oberursel known as “Camp King” with local historian Manfred Kopp.

The tour covers the history of the area from the Reichssiedlungshof in the 1930s, through the time of the Dulag Luft up to the end of the U.S. Army presence in the town.

The meeting point is the corner of Elvis-Presley-Weg and Camp-King-Allee at 2pm, and the tour costs 3EUR.

This is an interesting opportunity for local residents to learn more about the history of the area that they live in.

An evening for working mothers

Helen Doron Early English are offering an evening for working mothers in Oberursel station on Thursday, 30th August, 2012 at 7.30pm.

Aimed at “stressed mothers interested in English”, the evening promises sparkling wine in the tower, snacks and a surprise.

I love you, blue kangaroo!


Helen Doron Early English are offering an interactive story hour on Saturday, 25th August, 2012 at 3pm.

The story is “I love you, blue kangaroo!” and the afternoon is aimed at children between 4 and 7 years old.   The children will be introduced to the main vocabulary in the story and will be singing, dancing and making things associated with it.

To take part you need to register your child by Thursday, 23th August by calling 06171 699986.  There will be a charge of €3 per child which includes a drink and a snack.

 

Kräutertag at the Maize Maze

The Maize Maze in WeißkirchenThe Maislabyrinth – a maze made out of maize – will be holding a Kräutertag (herb day) on Sunday, 26th August 2012.

On this day, a Kräuterhex, literally a “herb witch”, will be there and one of the highlights of the day will be a traditional Frankfurt green sauce.

The maze itself from 11am until dusk. Entry costs €2.50 for adults, €2 for children aged 10 to 16 and €1.50 for children aged 4 to 9.

To get there by car, travel to the edge of Weißkirchen on the road to Steinbach. There is a track off the road near the yellow “Oberursel Stadtteil Weißkirchen” sign leading towards Frankfurt (ie. left if you have just driving through Weißkirchen, right if you are coming from Steinbach). The maze is about 200m along this track.

If you are coming by train, the nearest station “Weißkirchen-Steinbach” is on the S5 line between Frankfurt and Bad Homburg.

Book reading for children aged 5 and over

The book “Mama Muh liest” is being read at the library in Oberursel for children aged 5 and over by volunteer Susanne Herrmann on Saturday, 25th August, 2012 at 11am.

Entry costs €3, and as places are limited anyone wishing to take their children should register in advance by calling 06171 62870 or in person at the library.

After the reading the children will be decorating letters of the alphabet to hang up in the library.

 

A tour of the war memorials

The victims' memorial in OberurselA tour of the war memorials in Oberursel is being offered on Sunday, 26th August, 2012.

Led by local historian Angelika Rieber and Dietrich Andernacht the tour encompasses memorials in the town starting in the 19th century and covering both World Wars and also the latest victims’ memorial in memory of those taken from Oberursel against their will never to return.

The tour starts at the Christuskirche in the Oberhöchstädterstraße at 2.30pm and costs €3.

Obstwerk – Fruit for all occasions in the Ackergasse

A new shop opened in the Ackergasse in Oberursel yesterday: Obstwerk.

Obstwerk started out 3½ years ago in Ober-Eschbach providing services for corporate clients such as fruit baskets or catering for meetings.  However whilst still providing these services the business has now moved completely to Oberursel.

The shop offers fruit on a smaller scale for people in the town and is located directly opposite the Alt-Oberurseler Brauhaus.
