Ausländerbeirat to meet at Frankfurt International School

The Ausländerbeirat (foreigners’ sub-committee) are going out into the community next Monday and will be holding their meeting at Frankfurt International School at the northern end of Oberursel.

The meeting starts at 6pm and guests are welcome.

However, the newly introduced “question time” session at the beginning of the meeting is not on the agenda currently available on the town’s homepage.  This appears to be an administrative error and it will be up to the members of the committee to add it back onto the agenda if they wish to do so.  It would be pretty embarrassing for them if a lot of guests attend and they decided not to…

Drunken thief caught red handed

An attempt to steal a 30 litre barrel of beer on Monday morning (8th April, 2013) did not go as planned for the 29-year-old thief who, according to police, was already drunk when tried to leave the drinks store in the Taunusstraße in Stierstadt.

One of the employees of the shop unlocked the door, only for the thief to run straight into him.  Apparently he made an unsuccessful attempt to attack the employee, only to fall over whilst trying to leave via the courtyard at the rear of the building.

He was held down and handed over to police on their arrival.

Bakery in the Vorstadt broken into

A bakery in the “Vorstadt” was broken into at around half past ten last Saturday night (6th April, 2013).

However the strange noises coming from the bakery caught the attention of one of the neighbours, who went out into his garden and saw the three thieves coming out of the back door of the backery.  When they noticed him, they fled.

According to police, two of them ran off but one hid between parts of the building.  Another neighbour found him and between them the two witnesses were able to hold onto him until the police arrived.

On inspecting the building the police discovered that the door to the bakery had been forced open, as had a safe inside the building.  The damage is estimated at around €500, although it is believed that nothing had been taken.

The instrument believed to have been used to force the door open was later found in the garden and the search for the two accomplices continues.

Witness spots potential vandals at swimming pool

An observant member of the public reported two men to police who were behaving strangely within the grounds of the swimming pool in Oberursel last Saturday evening (6th April, 2013).

Both of the men had rucksacks with them and as police approached them, they fled.  The police officers were, however, able to catch up with one of them them and on searching the 17-year-old’s rucksack they found graffiti spray cans and alcohol.

A search of the grounds then found evidence of an attempted break-in on one of the doors, along with a metal bar which police presume to have been used in the attempt.

The teenager was arrested and the investigation is ongoing.
