Learner driver went the wrong way
An 18-year-old learner driver was travelling the Berliner Straße on Monday, 6th May, 2013, in an Opel Corsa, heading towards the Nassauer Straße, when he oversaw the one-way-sign at the Freiligrathstraße.
He realised his mistake when he saw cars coming towards him and steered the car to the right.
Unfortunately in doing so he hit the railings between the road and the U-Bahn tracks, causing €750 of damage. The car had to be towed away.
Getting to the root of the Sycamore Tree problem
There is a tree in the centre of Oberursel that has been receiving quite a bit of attention recently. Called a “Platane”, a type of sycamore tree, it is located at the junction of the Adenauerallee, Oberhöchstadter Straße and the Liebfrauenstraße, next to what used to be called KDM – “Kaufhaus der Mitte”.
Whilst KDM is in the process of being modernised, the crossing itself has been in discussion for re-development at some time in the future, or even re-configuration you might say, considering that part of the discussion focuses on how the traffic lanes should be laid out.
At one point there was talk of planting a replacement tree and removing the current one, but this met with such resistance – even among members of the town council – that just two months ago the town hall scrapped those plans and came up with new ones leaving the tree in place.
“Not a branch will be damaged” claimed the Taunus Zeitung in March. [Read more…]

Two donors – Two hundred donations
173 people made their way to the Red Cross building in the Marxstraße yesterday (Saturday, 11th May, 2013) to donate blood. For two of them, it was their 100th donation.
Bernd Adler, 65, was the first to arrive. He started donating blood in his home town Bad Hersfeld, but on moving to Schmitten 30 years ago he started donating in Oberursel. “I only come for the Rindswurst (beef sausage)” he joked.
Jürgen Popp, 50, on the other hand has moved from Oberursel to Frankfurt, but he still returns on a regular basis to donate blood rather than going somewhere new. As a professional soldier he has seen for himself how the blood is used in emergency situations in places like Afghanistan.
“It is a great achievement to regularly donate [blood] over so many years” said Jürgen Swoboda of the Red Cross blood donation service. He present both of them with a certificate and a wristwatch engraved with their names, as well as a badge of honour. The also each received a hamper from the local branch.
