Congratulations to Frau Anna-Marie Kaufmann of Oberursel who is 90 years old today.
Red telephone box set on fire in Rushmoor Park
The fire brigade “Oberursel Mitte” were called to the Rushmoor Park in the early hours of Saturday morning (29th June, 2013), where the red telephone box had been set on fire.
The telephone box had been in use as a library where people could go to read and either borrow or exchange books.
Both the books and the telephone box itself suffered substantial damage in the blaze which has been estimated at €1,500. Police believe that the box was subject to an arson attack, a theory supported by the fact that a rubbish bin was also set alight on the nearby Oberhöchstadterstraße only half an hour beforehand and also had to be extinguished by the fire brigade. 81-year-old run over at petrol station
An 81-year-old pedestrian was run over at a petrol station in the Homburger Landstraße on Friday, 22nd June, 2013, after being hit by a Mercedes being driven by an 82-year-old driver.
The pedestrian was so severely hurt, that attempts to save here were unsuccessful.
Although the exact cause of the accident is unknown, police have suggested that the driver may have confused the brake and accelerator pedals.
Schillerstraße closed for work on drains
The Schillerstraße will be closed from Wednesday, 3rd July until Tuesday, 9th July, 2013, in front of house number 23 to allow for work on the drains to take place.
Open-Air Rave in Rushmoor Park
The start of the school holidays will see a techno party “open-air rave” take place in the Rushmoor Park on Friday, 5th July, 2013 at 10.30am.
Entry is free and budding DJs are invited to try their hand and present their own style.
The event is part of the Orscheler Sommer organised by Kunstgriff e.V.
Walls of Resistance
An exhibition entitled “Walls of Resistance” about Street Art and human rights in Egypt can be viewed until Friday, 5th July, 2013 in the foyer of the town hall (Rathaus).
The pictures are accompanied by background information about Egypt, its culture and the situation in the Middle East.
The exhibition is a co-operation between the equal opportunities department in the town hall and the local Amnesty International group.
Book reading for children aged 4 and over
The story “Der kleine Ritter Trenk” by Kirsten Boie is being read in the library on Thursday, 4th July, 2013 at 3.30pm by volunteer Edith Nikel-Ruppmann.
Tickets cost €2 and should be reserved in advance in the library or by calling 06171 62870.
Take a look inside the tower of St.Ursula’s Church
The tower of St.Ursula’s Church in Oberursel will be open to the public on Saturday, 6th July, 2013 between 3pm and 5pm.
The tower contains a museum, the belfry and there is also access to the roof where you can get a breathtaking view across the town and its neighbours.
Entry costs €1.50 for adults and €1.00 for children.
