Taxi thieves caught near allotments

Oberursel’s police were able to able to catch two teenagers from Bad Homburg, who it is believed had stolen money from a taxi driver.

The 19 and 17-year-old apparently climbed into the taxi in Frankfurt and asked to go to Oberursel where they directed the driver to the car park “An den Kieskauten”.  Instead of paying they snatched the driver’s wallet out of his hand and then pressured him to hand over three mobile phones.  They fled on foot towards the Lahnstraße, where police caught them still in possession of the stolen goods.

Ground-breaking ceremony held for the new Porsche centre

Porsche is coming to Oberursel!  That was the message last week Thursday (4th July, 2013) when the chairman of Porsche in Germany, Klaus Zellmer came to the down for the ground-breaking ceremony in the Willy-Brandt-Straße where the new Porsche centre is being built.

The centre will be known as “Porschezentrum Bad Homburg/Oberursel” and will create 25 new jobs in sales and service on 6,800 square metres of land.  It will be run by Otto Glöckler Sportwagen GmbH who also run the Porsche centre in Frankfurt and who are investing €5.5 million in the new centre.

Oliver Glöckler explained that they had looked at several sites in the Taunus area, but had chosen Oberursel because of the good infrastructure and connection to the A661 motorway. [Read more…]

Steam trains

DampflokThe Dampfbahnclub-Taunus e.V. steam railway in Oberursel will be open to the public on Sunday, 14th June, 2013 between 10am and 5pm.

Located at the end of the Mainstraße, entry costs €1,50€ for adults and €0,50 for children. Children receive one ticket to go on the trains in the entry price, additional tickets are €0,50 each.

To get there, either leave the A661/B455 at “Oberursel-Nord” towards Oberursel, then take the first turning right into the Dornbachstraße. The Mainstraße is on the right-hand side.

By U-Bahn, take the U3 to Lahnstraße and cross the road before turning left into the Dornbachstraße.

A walk along the Mühlenwanderweg

The water wheel at the SchuckardtsmühleA tour along part of the Mühlenwanderweg is being offered on Sunday, 14th July, 2013.

Starting at the Taunus Information Centre, the tour will visit the location of some of the 42 mills that used to operate in the town along the course of the Urselbach.

The tour starts at 10am and costs €5 per person.

 

Flea Market at the Seniorentreff

They will also be serving coffee, tea, cold drinks, grilled sausages and home-made waffles.

3,000 step walk for senior citizens

To take part, be at the Christuskirche in the Oberhöchstädter Straße at 3pm.

To take part, be at the bus stop “Altes Rathaus” in Stierstadt at 3pm.

Donate Blood

Blood - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / iqonceptBlood can be donated at the Red Cross in Oberursel on Saturday, 13th July, 2013 between 1.30pm and 6pm. The Red Cross is located at Marxstraße 28, opposite the U-Bahn station “Lahnstraße”.

To donate you must be healthy and between 18 and 68 years of age. If you have not donated before, then you must not be over 60. You must take some form of identification with you, such as a passport, that contains a photo.

100 years of a Modern Grammar School

On 25th February 1913 the building of what was to become Oberursel’s Grammar School was officially opened.

Just over 100 years later, on Saturday, 29th June, 2013, it was the school’s headmaster, Volker Räuber, who addressed an audience of around 300 guests first about that occasion, and took a moment to look back at what the school had achieved and plans for the future.  “If not know, then when?” he asked.

Taking the audience on a journey through the educational and sometimes political topics of those years, he described the school as an island, and criticised in particular the Pisa study that took place some years ago, saying that it was typical in Germany to look at things that go wrong, rather than achievements. Fischerstechen at the Maasgrund

The annual “Fischerstechen” – Water Jousting competition took place at the Maasgrund lake last Sunday (30th June, 2013).

32 teams took part, with the “Orscheler Biatches” winning at the end of the day.

Music was provided by the group “Impuls” whose drumming accompanied the jousting.
