A tour of Camp King

The Kinderhaus - previously Haus Florida, Haus 997, Haus am Wald and Außerhalb 7 - now Jean-Sauer-Weg 2On Saturday, 27th September, 2014 there will be a tour of the area in Oberursel known as “Camp King” with local town guide Silvia Struck.

The tour covers the history of the area from the Reichssiedlungshof in the 1930s, through the time of the Dulag Luft up to the end of the U.S. Army presence in the town.

The meeting point is at the “Kinderhaus” in the Jean-Sauer-Weg at 2pm, and the tour costs 3EUR.

This is an interesting opportunity for local residents to learn more about the history of the area that they live in.

Guided walk: Jewish life in Oberursel

The Victim's Memorial (Opferdenkmal) in OberurselA guided walk entitled “Auf den Spuren jüdischen Lebens in Oberursel” (Traces of Jewish life in Oberursel) is being offered on Sunday, 28th September, 2014 by historian Angelika Rieber.

The tour starts at 2.30pm at the fountain on the Marktplatz and costs 3EUR per person.

 

Pumpkin Carving at the Maize Maze

Pumpkin - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / NitrThe Maislabyrinth – a maze made out of maize – will be holding a Pumkin Festival with pumkin carving for children on Sunday, 28th September, 2014.

The maze itself is open from 11am until 7pm. Entry costs €3.00 for adults, €2.50 for children aged 10 to 16 and €2.00 for children aged 4 to 9.

To get there by car, travel to the edge of Weißkirchen on the road to Steinbach. There is a track off the road near the yellow “Oberursel Stadtteil Weißkirchen” sign leading towards Frankfurt (ie. left if you have just driving through Weißkirchen, right if you are coming from Steinbach). The maze is about 200m along this track.

If you are coming by train, the nearest station “Weißkirchen-Steinbach” is on the S5 line between Frankfurt and Bad Homburg.

Friday night music at Musikhalle Portstraße

On Friday, 26th September 2014, the “2nd Oberurseler Rock & Blues Meltdown” is being held at 8pm featuring the band “Pillbugz”.

Entry costs €6.

Stammtisch at the Seniorentreff

The Stammtisch is a place to discuss anything and everything that those attending wish to.

A charge of €7 per person will be made to cover the cost of food and drink.

Bingo at the Seniorentreff

Anyone who is interested is invited to come along and try their luck!

Tuesday night cinema at Bluebox Portstraße

As the organisation is not a commercial cinema, they are not allowed to advertise which film will be shown in advance. For Tuesday, 23rd September, 2014, we are told that it will be a “documentary drama”. If you do want to know which film will be shown then call 06171 636930 and they will tell you.

The showing starts at 9pm.

Freiligrathstraße closed until November

Traffic will be diverted along the Ebertstraße and An der Billwiese.  The Alexander-Hess-Straße will be one-way towards the Berliner Straße.

 

Altkönigstraße closed for two weeks

Traffic will be diverted along the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Straße, Kleiststraße and Brüder-Grimm-Straße.

 

Herbsttreiben – a Market of Markets

On these days, a handicraft market will take place on the Epinayplatz and in the Kumeliusstraße, cider will be sold on the Marktplatz at the “Ebbelwoi-Vertestigung”, whilst stalls selling French wares will be on the Rathausplatz.

Also on the Marktplatz there will be a market of specialities from Thuringia, and music and entertainment can be expected at both the Marktplatz and the Rathausplatz.

Sunday, 21st September is “verkaufsoffen” and many of the shops in the town centre will be open during the afternoon, and also on Sunday a Vietnamese festival will take place in the Adenauerallee between 12pm and 6pm.

During the entire weekend a miniature railway for children will be running in the Ackergasse and Untere Hainstraße. [Read more…]
