A walk along the Mühlenwanderweg

The water wheel at the SchuckardtsmühleA tour along part of the Mühlenwanderweg is being offered on Saturday, 24th August, 2014.

Starting at the U-Bahn station “Hohemark”, the tour will visit the location of some of the 42 mills that used to operate in the town along the course of the Urselbach.

The tour starts at 1pm and costs €5 per person.

 

3,000 step walk for senior citizens

To take part, be at the Christuskirche in the Oberhöchstädter Straße at 3pm.

Musical Breakfast at the Museum

The music is being provided by Ilse Diehl (vocals) and Peter Lehmler (vocals and guitar).

Entry is free.

Bingo at the Seniorentreff

Anyone who is interested is invited to come along and try their luck!

Energy saving advice

Appointments cost €5 for 30 minutes, and €2.50 for each 15 minutes after that. They need to be arranged in advance by calling 06171 502-310.

The Ehrenmal – Restored at last to comfort, honour, warn and teach

For the past three years, I have been following the restoration work of the memorial to those from Oberursel who died in the First World War: The Ehrenmal. The war memorial, which stands next to the Christuskirche at the crossing of the Oberhöchstadter Straße and the Füllerstraße, was badly in need of restoration when the Hessentag took place in the town, but now, thanks to the donations of not only the town itself but many private families, once again is glittering in the evening sunset. With the mosaic pieces returned to the column and the column itself now stabilised, it was a solumn ceremony that took place on Wednesday, 23rd July, 2014 to commemorate the war dead and officialy re-dedicate the memorial. Jazz Breakfast at the Museum

The music is being provided by Lindy Huppertsberg and her band Witchcraft.

Kräutertag at the Maize Maze

The Maize Maze in WeißkirchenThe Maislabyrinth – a maze made out of maize – will be holding a Kräutertag (herb day) on Sunday, 17th August, 2014.

On this day, a Kräuterfee, literally a “herb fairy”, will be there and one of the highlights of the day will be a traditional Frankfurt green sauce.

The maze itself from 11am until 7pm. Entry costs €3.00 for adults, €2.50 for children aged 10 to 16 and €2.00 for children aged 4 to 9.

To get there by car, travel to the edge of Weißkirchen on the road to Steinbach. There is a track off the road near the yellow “Oberursel Stadtteil Weißkirchen” sign leading towards Frankfurt (ie. left if you have just driving through Weißkirchen, right if you are coming from Steinbach). The maze is about 200m along this track.

If you are coming by train, the nearest station “Weißkirchen-Steinbach” is on the S5 line between Frankfurt and Bad Homburg.

Flea Market in the Adenauerallee

Flea Market - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / photoflorenzoThe monthly flea market in the Adenauerallee in Oberursel will take place on Saturday, 16th August, 2014 between 7am and 1pm.

The flea market starts at the end of the pedestrian zone and continues the length of the Adenauerallee and over the railway lines towards Bommersheim. One part also takes place in the Nassauer Straße next to the U-Bahn tracks.

To get there by train take either the line U3 or S5 to Oberursel’s main station.
