The Maislabyrinth – a maze made out of maize – opens for the 2012 season on Sunday, 22nd July at 12pm, with a visit from the Brunnenkönigin. The design of this year’s maze is called “The Olympic Games in London″.
In addition to the maze itself there is a haystack to climb on and a “maize pool” to “swim” in.
Coffee and cakes will also be available.
The maze is open every Saturday from 2pm and Sunday from 11am until dusk. Entry costs €2.50 for adults, €2 for children aged 10 to 16 and €1.50 for children aged 4 to 9.
To get there by car, travel to the edge of Weißkirchen on the road to Steinbach. There is a track off the road near the yellow “Oberursel Stadtteil Weißkirchen” sign leading towards Frankfurt (ie. left if you have just driving through Weißkirchen, right if you are coming from Steinbach). The maze is about 200m along this track.
If you are coming by train, the nearest station “Weißkirchen-Steinbach” is on the S5 line between Frankfurt and Bad Homburg.

The district office – Stadtteilbüro – in Weißkirchen is threatened with closure at the end of this year if funding to keep it open is not found.
Originally set up 2½ years ago as part of a project sponsored by the national office for migration and refugees (Bundesamt für Migration und Flüchtlinge), the office has one employee and offers a place to meet and activities for senior citizens, families, women and mothers.
Sponsorship of the project ends in August. The town of Oberursel has agreed to provide funding to keep the office open until the end of the year which is located in the old town hall (Altes Rathaus).
The photo shows representatives of the initiative to keep the office open handing in a petition with 300 signatures to Mayor Hans-Georg Brum and Alderman Christof Fink, who have promised to look for a solution to the problem despite the difficult financial situation that the town is currently in.
