To take part, be at the bus stop “Altes Rathaus” in Stierstadt at 3pm.
The Seniorentreff in Oberursel will be holding a Stammtisch on Friday, 26th April, 2013 between 5pm and 8.30pm in the “Altes Hospital” (Hospitalstraße 9).
The Stammtisch is a place to discuss anything and everything that those attending wish to.
Tuesday night is film night at Bluebox Portstraße, located near the U-Bahn stop “Altstadt”.
As the organisation is not a commercial cinema, they are not allowed to advertise which film will be shown in advance. For Tuesday, 23rd April, 2013, we are told that it will be a French drama. If you do want to know which film will be shown then call 06171 636930 and they will tell you.
The showing starts at 9pm.
When I first heard about the plans to build a new Kindergarten on the playground “Spielplatz am Rosengärtchen” in the Neuhausstraße, I was horrified. Not only because I had received incorrect information about the location from the Ausländerbeirat, but because I felt personally affected by it more than by many of the things that I write about on this site.
This is the playground that I take my children to and we even held a birthday party there once. It has a variety of things for children to do and play on, including a large basket for a swing, a roundabout, two slides, a “bare foot path” (created incidentally by a local Scout group) and a couple of climbing frames. It also has places for parents to sit down and even a few tables, and in summer the trees provide shade for most of the playground.
All of a sudden this was under threat, with the reason given that the number of new homes built at the northern end of Oberursel would, one day, require further child-care places to be available in the area. [Read more…]
A new type of fitness studio opened in the Holzweg on Friday (19th April, 2013). The “microfitnessstudio” run by Carolyn Cozzo is part of the “Bodystreet” chain of fitness studios and it is called “micro” for a reason – because it is small.
There is, of course, a reason for it being so small. In fact, the studio only has 100 square metres of floor space and two machines. But these machines are the key to the training on offer.

For a start, training is by appointment. Each training session lasts 20 minutes and is accompanied by a personal trainer who, because there are only two machines, only has two people to train.
And then there is the machine itself, which rather than using weights or force to train the muscles uses something called “electrical muscle stimulation” (EMS).
To train with one of the machines you first have to put on a special jacket which is then connected by a cable to the machine, as well as straps on your legs and upper arms and a waistband. Under this you wear a special undergarment to help conduct the electricity better and also for hygienic reasons.
When the current is applied, different levels can be set to stimulate the muscles by different amounts, with the preferred settings stored on a chip card. With the muscles stimulated, the training begins. Apparently 20 minutes of training under these conditions is the equivalent to a 3 hour traditional workout, making it more suited to someone with a tight schedule.

One 20 minute session is also the amount of time that the studio recommend training each week and their prices reflect this. They offer 6, 12 and 18 month contracts based on exactly that model: one appointment per week, with the price per week starting at €19.90 and going up the shorter the contract length is.
Anyone who prefers not to commit themselves to the weekly appointment can instead buy a card for 10 sessions and book these on an ad-hoc basis, but this pushes the price up to €49.90 per session.
The good news for AllThingsGerman readers is that the trainers speak a variety of languages, so at present they can offer sessions in English, Spanish or Italian.
A pair of thieves pretended to be interested in buying a house in Weißkirchen in “An der Kreuzwiese”.
In doing so they were able to gain access to the house where the female member of the pair distracted the elderly house owner whilst her male accomplice checked the cupboards for valuables.
When the house owner became suspicious and wanted to call the police they both fled.
The woman is described as being about 30 years old, 1.75m tall with very long black hair. The man is also described as being around 30 years old, but with short black hair.
Cash and jewellry were stolen.
The 45-year-old driver of a Smart tried to turn the car around on the Feldbergstraße on Wednesday morning (10th April, 2013).
Whilst doing so she oversaw a Sharan travelling along the road from the station. The force of the collision pushed the Smart into a Skoda Octavia.
The damage to the cars is estimated at around €8,500.
The U3 line to Frankfurt will be operating a reduced service again at the weekend to allow for work on the track to take place between the stations “Dornbusch” and “Miquel- / Adickesallee”.
From Friday, 19th April, 2013 at 9.30pm the trains will terminate at Heddernheim, and will continue to do so throughout Saturday and Sunday. Buses replace the trains between Heddernheim and Eschenheimer Tor, from where a shuttle service will be in operation on the line to Südbahnhof.
Passengers should allow extra time for their journey or switch to other routes, such as the S-Bahn line S5 to get from Oberursel to the centre of Frankfurt.
Normal service should be resumed on Monday morning.
Congratulations to Irene and Georg Teprt in Oberursel who are celebrating their Golden Wedding Anniversary today!
It was a meeting of the Ausländerbeirat like no other that I have visited until now. Not only where all the members of the foreigners’ sub-committee present for the entirety of the meeting, but 16 guests turned up as well.
Admittedly those 16 included the press and members of the town council, with all of the parliamentary groups except the CDU represented, but at least half were simply members of the public who had come along to see the committee in action and to pose their questions.
The reason for such interest in a committee whose guests don’t normally make it into double figures was very likely due to the meeting place: Frankfurt International School. [Read more…]
