Break-in at office caused more damage than loss

A break-in at an office in the street “In der Au” over the course of last weekend (19th-21st April, 2013) caused around €1,000 of damage.

According to police the thieves entered the building through a window in the basement before trying to open a safe.

When that failed they appear to have left with just a pair of gloves worth €1.99.

Theft thwarted, police looking for witnesses

A shop lifter tried to take an espresso-making machine worth €500 from a shop in the “Vorstadt” on Friday morning (19th April, 2013).

He hid the machine in a plastic bag and left the shop before trying to get away on a bicycle.  An employee of the shop concerned hurried after him and managed to hold onto the bicycle carrier.

The thief got off the bicycle, pushing it towards the employee, before fleeing on foot.  Another employee followed him and managed to stop him near the Stadthalle.  Although they regained the carrier bag with the machine in it, the thief was able to run off.

He is described as 45 years old, 1.80m tall and well-built, with short, dark blond hair.  He was wearing a dark sweat-jacket and a black- and white neck scarf.  On his forehead he had a conspicuous birth mark.

Witnesses are asked to call Oberursel’s police station on 06171 62400.

Drunk driver hit U-Bahn railing

A car being driven by a 29-year-old woman was travelling along the Hohemarkstraße in the early hours of Sunday morning, heading towards the town centre.

On reaching the turning to “Im Heidegraben” she lost control of the vehicle and hit the railing of the U-Bahn station on the right-hand side of the road.

According to the police report she had drunk considerable alcohol, which was confirmed at the scene by a breathaliser test.  A blood sample was taken and her driving license was confiscated.

The damage is estimated at around €5,000.

Car drove through red light

An accident occured on the Hohemarkstraße at the junction with the Oberstedter Straße on Saturday morning (20th April, 2013), when a 54-year-old driver drove past a red traffic light and in doing so hit a car driven by an 18-year-old who had passed the traffic light showing green.

Driver misinterpreted headlight flasher

An accident occured on the Feldbergstrasse last Friday (19th April, 2013) when an 18-year-old driver tried to back out an Audi of a parking space.

The 83-year-old driver of a Citroen was travelling along the road and turned on their full-beam headlights just before he reached the Audi, which the younger driver took to mean he was allowing her to leave the parking space.

The cars collided, causing €1,300 of damage.

Why Oberursel needs to have a culture of making savings

Oberursel’s town council may have approved the 2013 budget last December, including a range of tax increases and cuts in services, but the council obviously does not have the last say in the matter, because since then the town has been waiting for it to be approved by local government regulators.

That approval arrived last week and allows the town to move forward on projects such as the new traffic lights for the Frankfurter Landstraße.  But it is coupled with a series of restrictions in place not only for the current year, but for future budgets as well.

It is expected that the town: [Read more…]

Limited U-Bahn service in Frankfurt

The U3 line to Frankfurt will be operating a reduced service once again at the weekend to allow for work on the track to take place at the “Miquel- / Adickesallee” station.

From Friday, 26th April, 2013 at 9.30pm the trains will terminate at Heddernheim, and will continue to do so throughout Saturday and Sunday.  Buses replace the trains between Heddernheim and Eschenheimer Tor, from where a shuttle service will be in operation on the line to Südbahnhof.

Passengers should allow extra time for their journey or switch to other routes, such as the S-Bahn line S5 to get from Oberursel to the centre of Frankfurt.

Normal service should be resumed on Monday morning.

How Oberursel is planning to re-develop the station area with the help of its citizens

The discussion taking place in Oberursel about the re-development of the station area is not new.  In fact, it has been going on for several decades as Mayor Hans-Georg Brum reminded local residents at a meeting in the Stadthalle this week.  He had even brought along a copy of the 1976 traffic concept to prove it!

But whilst some members of the town council may still be reminding people of how expensive the plan was to put a tunnel under the Nassauer Straße and join the road coming from Bad Homburg with the Weingärten by-pass, others – indeed a group of ordinary people from the town – had brought along suggestions of their own. Discuss the future of the station area

There will be a chance to discuss the future of the station area, the “Bahnhofsareal”, with other citizens of Oberursel on Tuesday, 23rd April, 2013 at 7pm in the Stadthalle where a “Bürgerversammlung” is being held.

The area concerned stretches from the flyover at the “Drei Hasen” to the end of the Nassauer Straße which may later join up with the “Weingärtenumgehung”.

During the evening the town’s administration will be informing the people of Oberursel about the current concept for the flow of traffic in the area and giving them a chance to put forward their own opinions about it.
