Changes to the U-Bahn route (U3) next week

Due to permanent way work at Südbahnhof the U3 will be terminating in Frankfurt at Heddernheim next week.

Between 2am on Monday, 8th January and 3m on Monday, 15th January, 2018, there will be no trains travelling on the “A-Line” between Willy-Brandt-Platz and Südbahnhof.

The U3 will terminate at Heddernheim, from where U1 and U2 trains will continue to Willy-Brandt-Platz.  The U8 will not be running, but there will be an increased service on the U9 line.  To avoid changing platforms at Heddernheim, passengers travelling to Frankfurt with the U3 should alight at “Zeilweg” and then take the U1.

The S-Bahn line S5 also connects Oberursel with the Hauptwache and is not affected by the changes.

S-Bahn S5 replaced by buses at weekend

The S-Bahn S5 will be replaced by a bus service from Friday, 29th September, 8pm until Wednesday, 4th October, 2017, 2.30am between Oberursel and Friedrichsdorf.

The buses will be running every 15 minutes starting from a bus stop in the Lenaustraße.  That is on the Bommersheim side of the station and should not be confused with the normal bus stops!

The Lenaustraße will be temporarily made one-way it will not be possible to park there.

Changes to the U-Bahn route (U3) at the weekend

Due to permanent way work on the line the U3 will be terminating in Frankfurt at Heddernheim this weekend.

Between Good Friday (14th April) and Easter Monday (17th April), the U-Bahn trains will be replaced by buses in Frankfurt between Miquel-/Adickesallee and Südbahnhof.

The U3 will terminate at Heddernheim, from where U1 and U2 trains will continue to Miquel-/Adickesallee.  The U8 will not be running, but there will be an increased service on the U9 line.

The buses are unable to stop directly at Hauptwache, with the replacement bus stops at Goethestraße travelling south and Neue Mainzer Straße travelling north.

The S-Bahn line S5 also connects Oberursel with the Hauptwache and is not affected by the changes.

Changes to the U-Bahn route (U3) at the weekend

Due to permanent way work on the line the U3 will be running along a different route this coming weekend.

On Saturday, 5th November, 2016 and Sunday, 6th November, 2016, between 7am and midnight the line will start as usual at Oberursel-Hohemark and continue towards Frankfurt.  After the “Wiesenau” stop, however, it will divert onto the U1 line and terminate at Ginnheim.

A bus shuttle service will be in operation between Heddernheimer Landstraße and Heddernheim.

To get to Frankfurt city centre, either use the bus connection and continue on the U-Bahn from Heddernheim, or continue in the U3/U1 to Ginnheim and change there to tram line 16.  Alternatively, use the S-Bahn S5 from Oberursel to Frankfurt.

Changes to U3 trains from Saturday

U-Bahn (U3) single unit train in Oberursel station on 12th August 2012Due to works on the track at Niederursel the U3 trains from Oberursel will terminate at Weißkirchen-Ost from Friday, 4th June until Tuesday, 14th June, 2016.

A replacement bus service will take rail passengers to Niederursel and Nordweststadt, from where the U1 will continue into Frankfurt.  The U1 will be running more frequently than usual.

The U8 route will not be serviced by trains and the U9 will only run between Riedberg and Nieder-Eschbach.

To get to Frankfurt without using the bus service it is advisable to change to the S5 line in Oberursel.

On Sunday, 12th June, works on a bridge in Bommersheim mean that the U3 will not be running at all and will be replaced by buses between Weißkirchen-Ost and Hohemark.

Changes to the U-Bahn route (U3) at the weekend

Due to tree-felling work next to the line the U3 will be running along a different route this coming weekend.

On Saturday, 20th February, 2016, between 8am and 12 noon the line will start as usual at Oberursel-Hohemark and continue towards Frankfurt.

U-Bahn replaced with buses at weekend

Due to work taking place on the line, the U-Bahn U3 will be replaced with buses in the coming days as follows:

Thursday, 6th August & Friday, 7th August: between Oberursel Bahnhof and Hohemark

Saturday, 8th August & Sunday, 9th August: between Weißkirchen Ost and Hohemark.

Bus stops are situated near the platforms along the route.

Currently the main S-Bahn tunnel in Frankfurt is also closed for signalling work, so that the S5 trains terminate either at Frankfurt-Rödelheim or Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof.  They are not stopping at Frankfurt-West, Messe or Galluswarte between 10pm and 5am.

U3 Trains terminating at Niederursel

From Saturday, 9th August until Saturday, 16th August, 2014, the U3 trains from Oberursel-Hohemark will only be travelling as far as Niederursel to allow for work on the rails to take place.

A replacement bus service will take passengers from Niederursel to Heddernheim in Frankfurt, from where the trains will continue as normal to the Südbahnhof.

However the bus will not be stopping at the stations Wiesenau and Zeilweg.

As the S-Bahn trains are also running a reduced service at present, getting to Frankfurt in the coming week will require a good deal of patience.

One alternative is to travel to Bad Homburg by car, and use the U-Bahn line U2 from Ober-Eschbach, as this is not affected by the disruptions.

Night-time Maintenance on the U-Bahn Rails

Urgent maintenance work will be carried out on the U-Bahn track between the stations “Rosengärtchen” and “Waldlust” starting on Monday night, 17th March, 2014 and on the following three nights.

Local residents have complained about the state of the rails, so these are going to be so that a “rail-grinding” machine will be used to restore their surface.

The machine will make a certain amount of noise, although we are told it is “not comparable to a pneumatic drill”.

Reduced U-Bahn service on Sunday

Work on the tracks in the U-Bahn tunnel in Frankfurt will mean a reduced service running on Sunday, 23rd February, 2014.

The lines U1 and U2 will terminate at “Hügelstraße” from where buses will continue along the route to the “Südbahnhof”.  Most U3 and U8 trains will terminate at “Heddernheim”.

The S-Bahn S5 provides an alternative way to get to Frankfurt from Oberursel.
