Discuss the future of Oberursel’s town development

As part of the “Stadtentwicklungsplan” there will be a chance to discuss the future development of Oberursel at the town hall on Saturday, 20th April, 2013 between 10am and 3pm.

The workshop is entitled “projects”, and in this session the idea is to come up with projects that will allow the aims discussed previously to be fulfilled.  These project ideas will be passed on to the town council’s sub-committees at the end of 2013.

Discuss the future of the station area

There will be a chance to discuss the future of the station area, the “Bahnhofsareal”, with other citizens of Oberursel on Tuesday, 16th April, 2013 at 8pm in “Zum Schwanen” which is at Hollerberg 7 in the old part of the town.

The area concerned stretches from the flyover at the “Drei Hasen” to the end of the Nassauer Straße which may later join up with the “Weingärtenumgehung”.

Back to school for the classes of ’53

For the children living in Oberursel in 1953 who here six years old, 15th April was the day the remember as starting primary school.

Children living here now may well ask “which one?”, but there only was one primary school – the “Volksschule Mitte”, now called the “Grundschule Mitte” in the Schulstraße, and this served all of the children living between the border with Bommersheim and the Hohemark.

60 years later, and around 30 of those children – now aged 66 – returned to the school to visit their old classroom and to see how the school had changed. [Read more…]

Energy saving advice

Energy Saving Calculator - ©iStockphoto.com/alexslThe Verbraucherzentrale (consumers’ association) will be offering individual energy saving consultations in the Rathaus in Oberursel on Thursday, 18th April, 2013.

Appointments cost €5 for 30 minutes, and €2.50 for each 15 minutes after that. They need to be arranged in advance by calling 06171 502-310.

 

Historic Steam Train pulled by 01 118 in Oberursel

A train of historic coaches pulled by steam train 01 118 stopped at Oberursel’s station this morning (Sunday, 14th April, 2013) to pick up passengers for a trip to Gießen via Friedrichsdorf, Friedberg and Bad Nauheim.

The lokomotive, 01 118, was built in Essen in 1934 and spent much of its life working for the Deutsche Reichsbahn in the GDR.

TaunusDisco for over 40s at Tanzschule Pritzer

Oberursel Station at night with the Taunus Disco going on insideA disco for over 40s is being held under the name of “TaunusDisco” in the dance school “Tanzschule Pritzer” in the old station building on Saturday, 20th April, 2013.

The music will be a mixture of current music such as “funk” and “soul”, and also some lesser-known pieces such as World Music, all mixed by DJ Param.

Entry is from 9pm and costs 8 Euro.

Flea Market in the Adenauerallee

Flea Market - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / photoflorenzoThe monthly flea market in the Adenauerallee in Oberursel will take place on Saturday, 20th April, 2013 between 7am and 1pm.

The flea market starts at the end of the pedestrian zone and continues the length of the Adenauerallee and over the railway lines towards Bommersheim. One part also takes place in the Nassauer Straße next to the U-Bahn tracks.

To get there by train take either the line U3 or S5 to Oberursel’s main station.

 

3,000 step walk for senior citizens

Group of Senior Citizens walking - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / micropixThe Seniorentreff in Oberursel will be offering a 3,000 step walk on Wednesday, 17th April, 2013. The walk will go through the old part of the town (Altstadt) and be led by Marion Unger.

To take part, be at the Christuskirche in the Oberhöchstädter Straße at 3pm.

Tuesday night cinema at Bluebox Portstraße

As the organisation is not a commercial cinema, they are not allowed to advertise which film will be shown in advance. For Tuesday, 16th April, 2013, we are told that it will be an adaptation of a play. If you do want to know which film will be shown then call 06171 636930 and they will tell you.

The showing starts at 9pm.

Turkish music at Musikhalle Portstrasse

A group of Turkish teachers will be playing Turkish songs on a range of instruments at Musikhalle Portstrasse (near the U-Bahn stop “Altstadt”) on Saturday evening, 13th April, 2013, at 8pm.

Doors open at 7pm and entry is free.
