Tuesday night cinema at Bluebox Portstraße

As the organisation is not a commercial cinema, they are not allowed to advertise which film will be shown in advance. For Tuesday, 5th September 2017, we are told that it will be a musical. If you do want to know which film will be shown then call 06171 636930 and they will tell you.

The showing starts at 9pm.

Children’s cinema in the Portstrasse

Entry costs €2 per child, with free entry for one accompanying adult.

The bluebox is located opposite the U-Bahn station “Altstadt” (formerly “Portstraße”).

 

Book flea market at the library

Pile of books - ©Can Stock Photo Inc. / NatikaThere will be a book flea market in Oberursel’s library on Saturday, 2nd September 2017, between 10am and 1pm with proceeds going to the library’s supporters’ association.

The library is located at one end of the market square in Oberursel, in the Eppsteinerstraße.

The nearest car parks are “Bleiche” and in the Holzweg. The nearest train station is Altstadt (U3).

Take a look inside the tower of St.Ursula’s Church

St.Ursula's Church Tower in OberurselThe tower of St.Ursula’s Church in Oberursel will be open to the public on Saturday, 2nd September 2017 between 3pm and 5pm.

The tower contains a museum, the belfry and there is also access to the roof where you can get a breathtaking view across the town and its neighbours.

Entry costs €1.50 for adults and €1.00 for children.

 

Take a tour of Oberursel’s old town

The Bleiche in Oberursels old townA tour of the old town (Altstadt) part of Oberursel is being offered on Saturday, 2nd September 2017 at 2pm.

The tour starts in front of the Vortaunusmuseum at the Marktplatz at 2pm and costs €3 per person.

A tour of Camp King

The Kinderhaus - previously Haus Florida, Haus 997, Haus am Wald and Außerhalb 7 - now Jean-Sauer-Weg 2On Saturday, 2nd September, 2017 there will be a tour of the area in Oberursel known as “Camp King” with local town guide Silvia Struck.

The tour covers the history of the area from the Reichssiedlungshof in the 1930s, through the time of the Auswertestelle West up to the end of the U.S. Army presence in the town.

The meeting point is at the “Kinderhaus” in the Jean-Sauer-Weg at 2pm, and the tour costs 3EUR.

This is an interesting opportunity for local residents to learn more about the history of the area that they live in.

Tractor Oldtimer Day at the Maize Maze

The Maize Maze in WeißkirchenThe Maislabyrinth – a maze made out of maize – will be holding a Tractor Oldtimer Day on Sunday, 3rd September, 2017.

The maze itself from 11am until 7pm. Entry costs €3.00 for adults, €2.50 for children aged 10 to 16 and €2.00 for children aged 4 to 9.

To get there by car, travel to the edge of Weißkirchen on the road to Steinbach. There is a track off the road near the yellow “Oberursel Stadtteil Weißkirchen” sign leading towards Frankfurt (ie. left if you have just driving through Weißkirchen, right if you are coming from Steinbach). The maze is about 200m along this track.

If you are coming by train, the nearest station “Weißkirchen-Steinbach” is on the S5 line between Frankfurt and Bad Homburg.

Schlenkergasse closed until the end of the year

The Schlenkergasse in the centre of Oberursel will be closed from Tuesday, 29th August, 2017 until the end of the year to allow for building work to take place.

Pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to use the road and cars will be able to approach from either side, but will not be able to pass by house number 8.
